A normal pair of jeans will last 4 seconds sliding on asphalt. Leather will last 4 times as long, 16 seconds. Bare skin, not on your life.
My little brother, (48 years old and 2 inches taller than me, LOL!) took his date to a party last summer. Both were waering shorts and tennis shoes, 1st mistake. Parked the Sporty in the grass, driveway at party was full, 2nd mistake. Bike immediately sunk in, fell over and fried both of their right legs. Both now sport a couple of really nice brands.
I'm not using my bare knees and shins to sway bugs on the highway. I always wear a decent pair of jeans and chaps when the weather permits.

I never thought I'd be one of them........................ something came over me............maybe, the Blue sky, 80 deg temps and the thought of driving along the beach............
Nope none of them................
it's that F-N Bagger couch rider...........the bikes so easy to ride, it feels like riding in a cager..... I did have second thoughts when I ran thru a swarm of bee's tho......
will I do it again???????

No, never. I like my skin.
However I did see a metric rider the other day with full helmet, riding jacket (couldn't tell if leather), gloves, SHORTS and beat up tennis shoes.
