Default Engine just quit, I need some Help

Hi Guys, last night out for a nice ride and my engine just died while driving along about 60mph. All of the electrics were still working, just no engine. Once I stopped on the side of the road I turned the ignition off and back on, hit the starter and the bike fired right up. No issues for the rest of my ride. What could cause just the engine to quit ?? This happened to me once before last year. Any ideas?? Thanks

When that happened to me a couple of years ago, I had a short in my handlebar wiring. If you have done some work, check the wires involved with that work first. I had a pinched wire on the left side where the controls go on.

Check for codes

A split second problem will throw a code.

Keep in mind the speed sensor. I did a search on this and found that some bikes died when the throttle was released; my bike died when we came up to stop signs. Not an uncommon problem it seems. In my case, the speedometer would bounce around and sometimes die. The tech's said that the faulty sensor didn't come up on the diagnostic and it wasn't until I mentioned what I'd read here on the forum that they took a look at it. The first time it was in, there were metal shavings on it which they cleaned. Soon after I left the shop it died again and we ordered a new sensor. I did over a 1,000 miles over the holiday and didn't have a single problem.

I hope your problem is an easy fix.

My 07 Road King was doing the exact same thing. Once, I almost got run over by a gravel truck. After checking this forum several times i decided to replace the run-stop switch. This fixed it and the problem has never re-occured. Another option is to cut the wires to the switch and join them. I should have tried this because I never use the stupid thing anyway. Hope this helps.

Just did a post on this same issue, I had this problem going about 85 on coming from ATL to Houston, killed in MS...

Harley said they have problems with Fuel Check Valve assembly in the 06 and 07 models. The changed it in the 08 and new bikes...
