Just bought an 09 SG yesterday and due to a screw up at the dealer they did a few things for free on my bike. They said they installed the Stage 1 Air Cleaner which has the back removed and a K&N fileter? And they said they did the Stage 1 programming on the computer so all I need to do is but slip ons and Im ready to go.
Does this sound right?
If so what slips ons are good to buy that wont require doing more air cleaner or computer work? Im trying to keep this bike simple and not looking for crazy horse power.
I just want it to be a little louder and if it adds horsepower thats just a bonus...
Been building choppers with carbs and hand made straight pipes rookie when it comes to fuel injection and harleys.
I'm not sure about the stage 1 programming , but I do know your 09' streetglide will auto tune itself TO A CERTAIN DEGREE ! The best thing to do is put them on and try it out . But I'm pretty sure your gonna need to take it and get retuned for the slip-ons and air cleaner ! If it was just slip-ons , it will adjust . But air cleaner and slip-ons , probabaly not that big of window to get it right ! I just bought a set Super Flow Mufflers , which are OEM mufflers with diffrent internals . They sound awesome deep , throaty , but a real bark when getting down on it ! They were only 160.00 , plus shipping . Less than $ 200.00 to your door . They guy dose'nt get in a hurry , so if you cant wait 10-12 days buy elsewhere ! I only did the mufflers , not the air cleaner and it tuned perfectly . No lean poping ect ! Just my 2 cents ! Good luck with your ride. Be careful . . . . .
Fix is right, the ECM on newer bikes are self-adjusting. You can put slip-on mufflers on without installing a hi-flo air cleaner kit and stage 1 download. I do recommend that if you decide to do a full exhaust you should have the hi-flo and stage 1 installed.
It's going to run hotter than it should, and not have the power that it should, because you're changing the system. Just like when you add pipes and an open air cleaner to a carbed bike. You do that, you need to retune the carb to add more gas. Miore air in, needs more gas to balance the air/fuel ratio.
The Stage 1 download that the Harley guys do is still going to be way too lean. They have to stay within EPA mandated standards.
Once you pick the pipes then call Fuel-Moto, and tell him what you have. Buy a Power Commander from him. He'll program it to run strong with your pipes and AC. Then send it to you and it's a simple plug in. Takes 10 minutes to install.
You'll be running pissah!
otherwise you're going to run leaner (=hotter) than stock. ..and that's hot.
