I have seen a few posts concerning the V-Twin heat deflectors and other ways to reduce the heat from the engine/exhaust. Have seen many comments on true duals but they are not an option at this time but still need a way to reduce the heat so that the wife is happy (= me happy). Do the V-Twin deflectors noticably reduce the heat felt by the passenger? Most of the previous posts address the rider more so than the passenger - the heat does not really bother me, but if I want her to ride with me I need to find something. Running V&H slip-ons with Stage 1 kit.
Got to get rid of the stock headers to kill that right side heat.
Not true.
First, welcome to the forum.
To correct the heat issue you need to address the cause of the problem which is the fuel mixture. You didn't say whether your bike is carb'd or F/I but the MOCO is bound by the EPA regs so it's a pretty good bet that it's lean. And that is going to run at a higher temperature. Look into a jet change or some type of controller for the fuel injection. There's plenty of good info here on this forum about the various choices you have.
I added a TFI to my RK a few weeks ago and the temp difference with the stock exhaust headers is quite noticeable.
I haven't noticed a problem with my 06 Ultra as a rider and seldom have a passenger. But, my buddy has an 03 Ultra that he got so disgusted with the heat problem burning his wife's thighs that he's trading for a Goldwing. [:@]
It was 94 here yesterday. The wife & I did a Lake Michigan shoreline ride.
Everytime we pulled into a town and had to stop and go that heat damn near felt like it was burning us. [:@]
A couple of times she lifted her legs right up on the seat.
Not sure yet - but I think the kids got me some V & H Oval slip ons for FD.
I guess I better save my money and get the true dual pipes, Stage 1 intake and get it re-mapped.
