Default Road King Classic

Hi Guys!
I live in Pakistan. We don't have HD dealership here but I always wanted to own harley davidson. In my college days I used to drive Yamaha but a smaller one. In my postgraduate days I used to look at those guys in UK who were driving HD. I was not sure whether I can handle a big bike or not until I tested somebody's Softail. Then I had some confidence that I can handle it. I like the look of Road King Classic and I am already in process of buying one from London. My question is from you experienced and great guys is should I go ahead with it or should I start from a smaller on. I am 5ft 8inches with inseam of 30". And can I maintain it in Lahore Pakistan if I get spare parts from London
Thanks

My inseam is thirty inches and at my age probably shrinking. I've had no problem keeping both feet down if needed. The Road King handles very well and easy. At most stops only need one foot down for support. The bike is very well balanced.
I live in the country and ride on varying road conditions. The king is great when handleing a ruted or gravel road.
I would think the other part of your question is the problem. Upkeep does take reasonable mechanical aptitude and a descent knowledge of the bike. The 96" engine runs hot and requires synthetic oil; usually a stage one upgrade( a more open air filter and pipes) and possibly an oil cooler.
The service manual will provide the information needed for upkeep and repairs.
I think you need to ask yourself what your needs are. If you want a classic American motorcycle and you are willing to be patient getting parts and repairs you won't go wrong with the Road King, but if you want to ride often and far I believe I'd be looking at a BMW or a Honda Goldwing.

Default road king classic

Hi!
well A great help. I am buying 2010 Road King Classic fromm Warr's Harley Davidson from London. They will lower it by 1" and also put Reach seat. I was more worried about the weight part of it but it looks like won't be a problem. The fellow who looks after my car says maintenance won't be a problem. Let us hope so
Thanks for the help

Hi

I have just bought a Road King Classic from Stratstone in London. I have a 30" inseam and have no problems putting both feet on the ground, even though the bike is a bit higher than my VTX1300. I alsio found that the seating postion was pretty good for my short legs as the footboard are not as far forwards at the Honda. You may be OK with just the standard bike without the mods and you can spend the money on a rack and sissy bar that for some bizarre reason does not come with the RKC even though its a touring bike.

Hope this helps

There is a dealer in Dubai, probably cheaper to get parts from them than from London. You'll love the Road King.

Hi!
thanks everybody for helping me. It will be easy to get parts from London because my son is studying there. More over the guy who said that he will look after the maintenance is the one looking after my Range Rover and he has subsiduary for Range Rover accessories in UK. My son visited HD dealership(he has same height and inseam),sat on RKC and said his toes were touching the ground. So I asked them to lower the bike by 1". My question is by lowering the bike will that effect the ride also. Will suspension get hard. Control of the bike is essential because traffic here in Pakistan is not that organized.
Thanks

One thing to get with the bike is the service manual. That way if you or your friend are going to be doing all the service on the bike you will have all the knowledge you need.

+1 on the service manual......You are going to like riding the King Think about floorboard extensions (got mine from HarleyGoodies). One of the best comfort mods I put on my King for around $35. Then your legs won't be hugging the tank all the time.

I have read in other threads that lowering the suspension will affect the ride of your RKC.

Please read the following with a grain of salt. I am 5'8", 31" inseam, 200 lbs and 59 years old.

- I own a 2009 RoadKing and I am barely able to flat foot the bike. Often times I am on the ***** of my feet with both feet down. I am gettin the seat modified by MeanCiityCycles here in the US and the changes will closely resemble the 'reach' seat, so I think you made a good choice there.

- I traded in a Sportster for this RK, and although I know the RK was heavier, I have found I get tired after riding for a hour or so. I'm no weakling, (I'm a computer programmer so I sit on my a$$ all day), but I have started some weight training to hopefully fix this problem.

- I sometimes find it impossible to back the bike into a parking space. The seat adjustments and training should eventually take care of this

On the plus side, the ride is magnificient.

I wish there was a way for you to sit on the bike and test drive it yourself

Good luck in your choice and ride safe!!
