Have her face the bike.
Her left foot on the floorboard, her left hand hand on your left shoulder.
She can pivot on the left foot as she steps up and through.

Guys let me clarify something here...A few have said that bike IS IN GEAR when passenger mount and dismount...Bike is not running right? I start bike, let it warm some then turn off and leave it in neutral,Hold front brake-passenger mounts then start put in gear-then off we go....I always leave jiffy down durring on-off mount procedure....

Something so simple and some people try to make so hard. Like others have set, passenger always on second. Left foot on left board, step up and through with right foot sit down. My wife always gives me a tap on the shoulder before getting on so no surprises.

Dismount is the reverse..PASSENGER first, then rider. This method gives you the best control of the bike, and avoids nasty accidents.
This is exactly the way we do it and I believe it's the safest way. Just make sure your spouse gives you a quick tap on the shoulder and tells you she is getting on (my wife is a seasoned passenger makes sure I know she is getting on before she steps on the pass floorboard ) so I can be ready

There is no written rule that rider gets on first even though that is that way I do it. But is there is a problem with that method, then the passenger could get on first if you, the rider, can handle standing the bike up.

Also...my wife taps me on the shoulder right before she get off the bike.

If anyone can't handle a passenger getting on when the rider knows and is ready for the passenger to mount, they need to get a trike or ride alone. The road poses many more difficult problems than that, (gravel, low spots at intersections, backing to park, parking on a hill ect. ect.)

My big thing is that the passenger clearly indicate to me when she is getting on or off. And the passenger always gets on second and gets off first.

+1

I will add the passenger only mounts or dismounts after confirming with the rider that he is ready for her to do so. The passenger should also be aware the rider may prefer the passenger to mount/dismount after the rider had backed out of a parking space or before he parks.
