Good idea to go ahead and change it while you have the wheel off anyways , mine went out at 38k.We also changed the isolator rubbers as they were also showing a lot of wear, they are only $3.50 each for a total of $21.00 and all the labor is just in removing the wheel, I think I will change mine from now on every other tire change. They are part # 40278-08

But why would they be installing bearings on new bikes? I could see if the OP had a wheel change done or installed IDS on an '07, but his bike was bought new in '08.

I had the exact thing happen on my 08 Streetglide.Harley Davidson of Greenville,SC was changing my back tire(14,000 miles) and caught the bearing problem. It only took a day to get the bearing in but I had no way home. They were nice enough to loan me a bike,at no charge,to help me out. They get two thumbs up from me!!

After market IDS kits were available immediately following the 5th gear problem with the 07's. No 07's have factory installed IDS - all are either moco (kits) or after market variety (kits). If I owned an 07, I'd definitely be pulling the rear wheel and checking that bearing - users were req'd to press fit it themselves.

I never did the IDS thing. Bike seems to run fine without it.
