Default Thundermax EFI controller (rant)

The costumer service at Zippers couldn’t be less helpful.![:@][:@]
First of all when I ordered a Thundermax EFI controller I was told that it would ship in a day or two. Two weeks later I called them and they said it was on backorder (thanks for telling me that when I ordered it). About a week and a half after that it finally came.
I installed my new Rinehart’s, (love ‘em)[8D] S/E air cleaner and the EFI controller. The bike ran good, no popping spiting or sputtering at all. After running a few tanks of gas through I started checking the mileage and found I was getting 32 MPG’s (read rich). When the software shipped it didn’t have the map that it was supposed to have on it. So I call customer service today and tell them the map was MIA. After trying to explain for 45 minuets (to some jackhole that talked to me like I didn’t know the difference between a mouse and a keyboard) that the map did not exist. Finally he connected to someone that realized the map was indeed missing and would E-Mail me the map right away. That was @ 3:30 this afternoon. By 4:30 no map was sent, so I called them back. They took my phone number and said that someone would get back with me today. Now it’s 10:30 and I’m starting to think they aren’t going to call (read sucker). I should have listened to you guys and got the PC III or SERT. (sorry about the rant and thanks for listening)
By the way I think the product will be everything they claim, just the costumer nonservice sucked!!!

Just an addition to your rant (Sorry, BTW).....

3 years ago we did a 103 on a 99 TC, and installed the HPI TB unit, set to 50 mm, and +1 injectors.....

Customer wouldn't budge and would only let us do the build if we used the VFI from S&S, not a SERT....

Service Manager only saw $$$$$ and not the big picture.....

When it came time to dial it in (As the VFI was still in it's infancy), S&S would not let us dial it in unless we agreed to be a distributor and a tuning center.....

So we went the Zippers route....

Same story, we will give you A MAP, but the technology to modify and create the necessary Maps for the unique builds we retain, unless you work for us.....

Both companies customer service leaves a bad taste in my mouth, when it comes to their "Proprietary Technology", and the customers ability to tune to their liking.....

Unless of course you are willing to pay a premium price for that priviledge.....

Alot of people here badmouth the HD product quality, and moreso the cost, but in the big picture of things, I really believe that the price of tuning in a bike with the likes of a SERT or if you keep it basic with a Stage flash is more than reasonable.....

AND NO, I AM NOT TAKING THE PARTY LINE......

I have 180 different experience with Zippers. Call them & talk to Pete.

I just put a ThunderMax on my 06 Dyna Super Glide. Have SE Intake, 25 degree injectors & Rinehart 2:1. Before the TM ran like crap with the dealer down load. So bad they gave me half the cost back after fighting it for several days. Plugs white as new fallen snow, stuttering, popping on deceleration, did not like anything under 2800 RPM around town & no power after 5500 RPM.

Pulls strong now, no stuttering or popping, is happy as low as 1600 RPM around town and pulls strong all the way to 6200 RPM. Plugs are now a nice light tan like they should be. Factory Alarm and everything else works just fine. Warranty?? 30 minutes to swap out to the original ECM is worth it if I have an engine or Electronics problem. The whole warranty thing depends on the Service Manager or whoever handles warranty claims. Been down the warranty road already with teh 8 to 25 degreee injectors and now have it figured out at my dealer.

Why the TM over a SERT or PC. PC does not impress me at all. SERT?? You know the story. Hook it up to the bike and it stays with that bike. TM?? Can move it from bike to bike, comes with software so you can tune it just like a SERT and if you want later on you can convert it to the closed loop system very easily. When I change cams, heads, Throttle body, etc. All I need to do is call Zippers and they will work it out if they do not already have it. They (Zippers) know what customer service is all about.

Support?? Called them 30 days ago, told them what I had, they had R& D work up a new map and then sent me the TM once I gave them my credit card number. Cost?? A lot less than a SERT & Dyno time. Oh, did I mention 30 day money back guarantee?? Save you breath on that one on a PC or a SERT. Custom map for my setup from the MOCO for the SERT??. You probably still believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny & the Tooth Fairy.

Does it run. Like a scalded dog. HP & Torque?? Who cares. It is not the numbers, it is the brain, eyes, hands feet & body putting it all together for the situation at hand.

XX HP & YY Torque along with 4 bucks will get me a Grande Latte at any Starbucks around here.
