Hello New Problem Went on a ride with my son last night first time that i have used my Driving/passing lights my head light worked fine on high and low ,when i ran with the Driving lights on the Head light fuse went south ,
this bike has 14 K on it never been down or wrecked any help would be great this is a 02 Ultra just stage 1 Thanks Roy in Texas
You state the spot lamps worked fine on low AND high beam which would indicate that the passing lamp wiring modification was done as the spots only work on low beam unless you rig to do otherwise. You also state that it is the first time you have used them so I would tend to think you or whoever did the wiring modification messed something up in the wiring.
This is a Stock Ultra classic when i run the head light by it self Eather on high or low No problem.. When i turn on the spot light/passing lights or whever you want to call them, The fuse blows for the head lamp , the head lights work high/low untill sopt lights turned on No wireing modes have been done to the bike 100 % stock wireing
When you have the high beam on, and turn on the spot lamps, the high beam should then switch to low beam. Is this what you are describing? If so, that is the way it is supposed to work.
Welcome to the forum. I have an 02 as well and run with standard headlight plus passing lights. When I switch to high beams, passing lamps go off. When I switch off high beam, passing lamps come back on.
I would say, if that is not happening with your bike, suggest getting the wiring checked out.
If you have not tried yet, search through this site and see if you can find an article that may help answer your question. Lots of smart people here.
Good luck.
Some touring bike owners mod the wires so that the spots stay on even when the Headlight is on high-beam (I did this on my 05 Ultra). Presuming you bought the bike used, the previous owner may have done this mod, and now the wiring maybe has frayed or loosened. Usually the mod is done under where the switches are for the spots. If you remove the key and lock mechanism, and the panel holding the switches it will expose the stock wiring and you may find the problem there.
maybe it was just a worn out fuse.... if you put headlite on high beam and then push the switch for the other lites ,if fuse blows then ,check wiring to the other lites(they should not be on while running high beam)
