Strong as hell, but they do flex without the grab rail. And that in itself is my big concern.
Those frame rails also directly or indirectly carry the weight of a passenger, saddlebags, mufflers, tour pak, etc. and upper mounting point for the shocks. In Harley-speak, the chrome bar is the "upper support tube." I'm leaving mine on the bike.

I took mine of about 5000 miles ago and frequently ride two up with no issues. I move the License plate from the grab bar to the lower part of the fender. JMO

If they flex without the grab rail, show me one picture of a "cheesy" fender that had damage as a result of removing it.

The fender that is not strong enough to "box anything", show me the damage. A fender sandwiched between Two pieces of heavy metal attached in two places with bolts. Obviously there has to be damage right? No way that fender could hold it all together. It has to flexing cracking paint etc etc.

Welcome to the forum... you'll find many opinions here. Not saying yours are wrong, but you might want to look around and count the number of people that do this mod without issue. I'll wait for that picture k?

I did it to my 02 road king and my 06 street glide didn't have any handling problems.

Had mine on the Road King off for a couple years before I sold it. Never really noticed a difference.
