For once the news media didn't make a group bikers out to be a bunch of thug's.
Maybe because such a high number was involved...they had too put a different spin on it, LIKE THE TRUTH.
As for traveling in groups....I ride with a few and we ride verrrrrry tight, we never tailgate another vehicle.
When we do end up behind someone, we space our bikes out. We have never talked about it, we just have
always done it.
When my son started riding with me, I had noticed in my mirrors that he was back further than I was used too seeing.
I picked out road markers and started counting after I passed until he crossed the same mark.
TWO SECONDS.
It is amazing how much road you eat up at 70mph in just two seconds.
my guess...
groups in the fast lane, and the suv in front wants to teach them how to drive...just doing the speed limit (or below). so the lead riders get a lil close to the suv suggesting move to center lane. azz clown in suz (nobody makes me move over) slams on the brakes after some drafting by the lead riders...WHAMMM!!!
had it happen to me many times (as i'm sure you have too)...in the hammer lane and the cage in front just won't move over...even tho there is 1/2 mile opening in front and nobody in center. i hate to pass on the right...then when i do, the donkey wants to teach me and starts to get over when i get over...aagh!!!
prayers to those involved...
I would not be surprised if for some reason the SUV needed to teach those bikers a lesson. Good luck to all involved.
The guys that I know in M/C's ride handlebar to handlebar just a few feet from the guy in front at typically 80+. I can see this happening...sad though.
Ditto..... This is one of the worst stretch of hiways around and claims victims consistently. There is a much safer and far more rider friendly route than I-5, through that area. Sucks to see this happen!
I ride this section of I-5 once or twice a month...usually both ways in a day. It is a nerve racking area.
I usually dive onto 99E at Corvallis/Albany area...Salem sometimes but Salem is a little harder transition......It's a little slower but the ride and scenery are much better.
I am usually doing these rides alone and get penned up by cagers frequently...I follow the 2 second rule and always get idiots sliding into my buffer zone......
When riding in groups ALWAYS stagger...if my group does not stagger I drift back to tail end charlie and feel better.
