Default Compression Release Question

I have a 103 build with manual compression releases. When the bike is hot, the compression releases tend to remain open when I fire her up. This happens until I crack the throttle. Is this normal operation?

they sound alittle tight, its just a miniature exhaust valve that shuts into a detent....i'd think its gonna right itself with some wear....if not, either screw in another set or crack the throttle

I think it is normal. On the second rear release on mine and doing the same ting.
It is the heat.
Tri-Flow lube is suppose to help.

Mine did the same and got worse over time. Try soaking them in MMO for a few hours. Fixed mine right up. They pop shut as soon as the engine fires.

In the risk of sounding like an idiot - what is MMO?

Thanks - just wanted to make sure I'm not hurting the engine. I already had the original compression release on the rear, pop out of the engine. I don't know if the original tech put loctite on them or not, but when I reinstalled, loctite was used.

I'm 99% sure he is talking about Marvel Mystery Oil.

Take them out and spray the crap out of them with brake kleen. Open and close them while you do this. They probably just got some carbon build up in them.

You might also check for an intake leak. The comp releases in my old RKC started stcking. Turns out I had an intake leak. Leak fixed, releases popped out as soon as it started.

One of mine closes as soon as the engine fires, the front closes when I crack the throttle, its always been that way, doesn't seem to hurt anything.

Zach - thanks for the hint on this one. I noticed the other day that it sounds like I have some air leaking when I accelerate hard. The engine really sounds like she's hitting hard. Any hints on checking for an intake leak? I have the Heavy Breather. Do I just inspect the gaskets and such?
