The reason you need to relocate the shock air fitting is to clear the backrest side plate when installing and removing the backrest. There is plenty of line to just move it down instead of rerouting the line like the directions say.

I am also looking at adding a sissy bar on my 2006 RK. Looking at the H-D site I have come up with this parts list.

52933-97B Sissy Bar Upright
53803-06 Docking Hardware
52709-97B Pad

For those who have added it, am I missing anything or is this all that I will need?

Oh, also enough beer to get job done

Thanks

I looked at the directions last night and seperated what parts I would need and what parts I wouldn't need. I agree the directions are very very hard to follow. Would someone be willing to take up close clear pictures of there mounting hardware and post it here. I don't know anyone that has one mounted and the local dealer didn't have one there for me to look at. I would great appreciate anyone that could do this for me.

1st step....throw away the directions...they will just confuse you...

if you can , go to dealer and look at one installed....once you see it , its easy to put on. Make sure that you do one side at a time. By that I mean do not remove all 4 bolts out of the fender at the same time. Remove 2 at a time (2 per side). I learned this the hard way...if you take all bolts out together, then then the fender will drop, and the holes won't line up.

And be prepared to have left over parts, you will not use all the parts! Other than that its an easy install.

If your fender does drop there is another set off bolts that hold your fender (they are behind the ecu unit). loosen them and you will be able to line up the holes.

Good Luck

I installed a detachable back rest on my '06 Road King. HD's Directions SUCK! I spent about 45 minutes going over them and comparing the pics in them to my bike (the directions show about every other application but mine). Finally I threw them off to the side and did it without the Instructions. I later saw a buddy who had the same set up installed by a local HD shop and my install was the same as theirs. After I figured out the first side I finished the other in about 10 - 15 min. I say go for it but don't rely too much on their so-called directions.

I put the detachable backrest on my 04 Road King. Like most everyone said, the directions are terrible and you will have parts left over. Just today (2 months later) I noticed the bolt holding on my seat strap is missing. You may want to consider some blue loctite on some of those bolts. I'll do that next time. One more thing, the backrest hardware looks like something is missing because there seems to be no bracket on the pad. Actually, the hardware is on the inside of the pad and you have to tighten the bolts so that the sissy bar presses in to the pad. You can feel the hardware inside the pad if you know it's there.

Anyone care to post or email me some detailed pictures of the installed hardware for the detachable kit on a 2005-6 Road King FLHR?

I would like to 'see' what it looks like once it is installed. As said before by others the supplied instructions are not all that good.

Thanks
