If anyone is interested, I just bought 2 chrome shifter rod heim joints on eBay to replace the stock junk prone to failure at the most inopportune moment.
The vendor has a few left.
When I replaced the shift rod lever last week, the heim joints I had installed on my shift rod were real stiff and felt like they were froze, they wouldn't swivel, etc. My indy said that they might have led to the failure of the lever. He said he had never seen or heard of the HD ones failing. I am considering replacing them with the HD stock ones. I don't want to replace another lever.
Right now the bolts holding them with poly nuts are not tightened real tight, allowing the rods to have some movement. Any suggestions, I think I paid like 12.00 a piece for the joints.

The stock HD units are ball sockets - not Heim joints and are seriously inadequate. The ball in the Heim should always rotate and swivel easily or it's defective.
They can be purchased from any aftermarket catalog or fastener supplier or the like.

You have to lubricate an exposed heim joint or it will sieze up but at least it won't fall off and leave you stranded.
