Great South HD Newnan, GA is the same way, awsome, honest bunch of guys that go out of their way to fix it right the first time with no BS in between. I take my bike there all the way from Chattanooga, TN because of their great serivce.
They came out with a rubber isolator wear check procedure that is to be performed during all the service intervals. There have also been reported issues with the IDS bearing. I would simply replace the 6 isolators at the 25k service, needed or not. I would also consider replacing the bearing at the 25k service as well. Notice how the 09's have a totally different IDS sprocket setup with a one piece rubber isolator? Coincidence?
Also notice that the 09's have different gearing. The gearing on the 07's and 08's were too tall. The 07 were really bad so they added the IDS to try and "mask" it. Then in 09 they fixed the grar ratio. I had a 07, then 08 (auctally 2 of them) and now an 09. The 09 is a keeper.
I just checked with dealer today on the status of my new rear wheel. The ship dates have gone from 9/30 to 11/20 to 12/21/09. I am glad they put a loner wheel on my bike. I would have been down for the count. With winter setting in, it will be setting in the garage more.
The 08 till present touring bikes have bad bearings in wheels and iso pulley. I have replaced them 3 times in wheels already in 30,000 miles on my 08 road glide.Dont waste anymore of your time and money on hd bearings.Ive done all the research and found that bearing #6205rs from vxb.com is the direct replacment for the cheap-*** hd bearing and its water tight! The vxb bearing is also used in atv and snowmobile apps which would tell you that it has to be water tight and its only 4.99 each. When i replaced the bearings the 1st time i picked one of the seals out of the hd bearing -rusty nasty grease inside. I knew right then the seals were junk! I really tried to cross the hd9276 factory bearing at that time but coudnt find anything.I got a machine shop to measure it . It was a 52mmOD 25MM ID and 15MM thick.Thats a very command bearing everywhere! The way i see it its problem solved ! Its been 15,000 miles and no more problems and i feel so much better knowing im riding on much better bearings and I got one over on HD MOTOR COMPANY!!!!!!

Thanks for the info on the replacement 25mm wheel bearing. I bookmarked the LINK
I have 21,000 on my 2008. The rear Tire has been replaced one time by the Dealer. I will put new tires on this spring. And have them check on mine. But to now, no problems. My Bike was built in June.
I installed it all myself and just changed the rear tire. with everything I'm hearing on problems, Mine looked like brand new...been on the bike 15,000 miles.
I'm at 24k on my IDS ('07 retrofit) and so far no problems at all. There is no detectable wear on the rubber or the bearing, and I'm thinking about Dawg's recommendation to change the bearing out with the next new rear tire, which will be in the next few months. OTOH the old "If it ain't broke don't fix it" logic makes me want to leave the bearing alone. How do I know the new bearing won't be faulty and the old one will last for years to come? Should we expect wear and eventual failure on these IDS bearings? It seems that they are similar to wheel bearings in structure and we normally don't change these out periodically. Perhaps the bearing failures we've heard about, which don't seem to be pervasive, are a factor of faulty parts or improper installation and not normal wear-and-tear.
I have an 07 with a retrofit. Zanottis pressed in the bearing and I did the installation. At the time there were "new" torque specs for the hub. So far no problems.
I do need to check next time the bike is on the lift.
