speedo quit working
Ok, there I was minding my own business when I look down and my speedo is reading zero mph. (I was cruising down the highway) Then my turn signals stopped turning off automatically. I checked the connection at the speedo. No problem there. Is there a sending unit that I can check? If so, how? Oh yeah, my bike is a '99 Road King.
There is a sending unit on top of the transmission near the clutch release cover. They are notorious for collecting metal filings. Sometimes you can clean them and they will work, most times you have to replace them.
Ditto on what he said! I had to replaced mine on my '02 RKC.

My buddy had a similar problem with his 05 Ultra. He had just plugged his cell phone in the cigarette lighter plug on the fairing. The tach, speedo and turn signals quit working, along with the odometer. The problem was a blown accessory 15amp fuse.
I had the same thing happen recently. I followed similar advice as you received above, cleaned the metallic afro off the sensor, reinstalled, speedo now works as do the self cancelling turn signals. It's easy, takes only a few minutes.
