dude, take the ultra, change the front fender, change the rear lighting setup & remove the saddlebags guards, and u will have that SG clean look

if u want a bagger, do it right the 1st time, or stick with the softail

I have an 09 Ultra with detachable tourpak. 5 minute job to remove the TP. As far as the wiring, it's all set for you....just a couple of plug disconnects...hide the wires under the seat and away you go....re-install TP...plug the connectors back in, and you're ready for a road trip.
I agonized about those 2 choices just as you are doing....added new shocks to the Ultra, which dropped me about 1 inch....a few additional mods, and you're pretty close to a SG. Cheaper going that route than adding stuff to SG. I read that many here don't use their CB...I get use out of mine, and intercom as well.

I get down to Australia every couple of years....you live in a great country...I've seen quite a bit of it.

Good luck with your choice....the good news is, you really can't go wrong!!!!!

Its like this.

Do you what the cute girl with no personality or brains that is pretty much good for one thing ;-).

Or do you want the not as cute, thicker girl with the great personality and the brains.

Seriously, If you plan on any long distance rides, especially with a passenger get the Ultra. If not, Street Glide dude!

I rented a electric glide for a day in Daytona and then test rode a street glide at the speed way. After riding the SG for 20 minutes I knew i had to have a Ultra. 2 months later I bought and 09 and have not looked back. I love the look of SG and RG but for me the Ultra is a perfect fit. I was going to get a disconect for the rear trunk, but I now use it daily and would miss it.
The main dislike on the SG were stiffer ride and the low windsheild. I felt like the wild was going to rip my helmet off. However the SG had alot lower center of gravity and felt lighter.

In 2006 I wanted a Streetglide but listened to others and bought an Electra Glide Classic. I drooled every time I saw a Streetglide. I crashed the EGC and totaled it out. Last October I went to get a 2009 EGC after agonizing over the Streetglide again. The EGC had just come in the day before and was in the back so I went with the salesman to look it over. I told him I'd take it and we walked up front to his office. Got about 15 feet away and I saw this Black Ice/Blue Ice Streetglide and I lost it. Yeah, I paid a bit extra to get a Tourpac (which stays in the garage most of the time) and I put fairing lowers on it, but I have the bike I always wanted, a Streetglide. I could care less about a CB on a bike or the rear speakers and the ride is just fine with the shorter shock. I did put on the Sundowner seat too so the ole lady is comfy. I didn't want an Ultra, I wanted a Streetglide and that's what I have. You can take stuff off an Ultra, but it doesn't make it a Streetglide.

Been on bikes since 1969 when I got back from Vietnam. I bought a 1968 leftover XLCH, trailer and van and headed out. Owned several different bikes over the years, everything from a 500cc Triumph to my present bike an 09 SG. My last bike was an 05 EGC with everytning on it but the CB/Intercom. I put 40K on it and told my better half, I need to finally get another new bike while I'm still working (turn 62 next April).

I test rode a RK, an Ultra, a RG and a SG. I fell in love with the SG. I sold my 05 and bought the 09 SG leftover and have not regreted the decision. I put a sundownder seat, passenger floorboards, passenger and rider backrests on, all for comfort. My wife and I ride together all the time. Bought it the middle of August and already have over 5K on it. We've been up to New England and down Virginia way (live in mid-Maryland). My wife says the ride is fine and I really enjoy the ride as much as I did my 05. I personally feel there is a big difference in the way you sit, but that really depends on your leg length and arm reach.

I would at the very least find someone willing to let you ride their Ultra and then someone with a SG before I would make your final decision. Good luck and I also think either way, you'll have a fine bike.

Started with the Street Glide and had added enough that it was starting to resemble an Ultra. When the '09s came out with all the improvements I bought a new Ultra - couldn't be happier. Didn't know what I was missing on the SG not having a tour pack. I use that every time I ride, don't even go into my saddlebags any more.

Get the Ultra.
