What strikes me odd is that 20 years ago everyone waived with arm up, now I see so many waiving with hands down low. I never could figure where that came from or how it changed. Of course, back 20 years ago, there were not as many bikes out and everyone on a bike waived at everyone else. Not like that now.
Me too. I think its a 'be cool' thing.

I wave like always, not point at the ground with 2 fingers or any of that.

Plus 1 on the pat on the head. ALSO, a twirling finger pointed upwards used to me one had a clear road ahead.

I have to be very careful with the twirling finger as I lost my index finger on the left hand. Some one might take the twirling of my middle the wrong way

Yea, I know what you mean. Apparently theres no clear signal for " my kick stand spring is sprung, anybody got a spare bungee to tie it off with" Just had to get in front of the group and pull over for someone to understand my problem.

We had just come on the highway from a rough road where we had camped overnight and I must have taken a hit to the spring cuz my stand was hanging halfway down and dragging in the twisties.

I've always done the pat on the top of the head thing, but some folks don't get it. I actually had some biker bad-a@@ wannabe turn around and chase me down to tell me that "he didn't have to wear a helmet if he didn't want to" etc., etc. insert threats and profanity and you get the idea. So, if you wear a helmet, be advised that your not so friendly local douchebag might want to kick your a@@ for trying to warn him about a speed trap.
