I want to buy a used Rear tour pack for my 06 Road Glide and I have the mounting hardware that wors for my quick release backrest, and it looks like it would accept a touring pack. Would one from a road king, street glide? or other models work?? thanks!
I want to buy a used Rear tour pack for my 06 Road Glide and I have the mounting hardware that wors for my quick release backrest, and it looks like it would accept a touring pack. The mounting hardware that works for your detachable backrest won't work for the HD detachable two-up tour pak rack. Would one from a road king, street glide? or other models work?? thanks!
Check-out HD's website or the 2010 P&A Catalog for the mounting hardware and detachable rack hardware needed. Milwaukee Bagger makes a two-up detachable tour pak rack that uses the same mounting hardware as used for your detachable backrest and it's what I use because I don't like HD's mounting hardware for their two-up detachable rack.
The mounting point for the tour-pak is different than the one for the backrest...meaning you need to buy some new hardware.
Thanks to Harleypingman for letting us know that the Milwaukee Bagger people make another option cuz I didnt know.
As far as the actual tour-paks go...just take your pick. I bought a brand new tour-pak off Ebay and saved over $100 even after shipping.
The one thing I do recommend is getting either the brake light wing or the brake light rack for your tour-pak especially if you are not going to get and Ultra version pak. You can never have too much lights in the back.
If you want the quick release feature you're probably going to have to buy some more hardware. If you want the tour pack on permanently, I had good luck lookin' for take-off hardware. I got everything I needed free from a couple of dealers that had taken it off other bikes when they installed the quick release hardware.
Good information, thanks. I will check into the mounting hardware. Some of the used ones I have seen )like from an Ultra) look like they were permanently attached.
Our dealer have 20 % off sales a couple of times a year .I ordered the king tour pack with no lights. Paint match the bike,(4weeks). Then got LED light from a guy out of Texas Have about 700 in everything I also went with a hidden antenna
I bought everything I needed by calling Zanotti's,they helped me with the part numbers for my particular bike and they have everything you need at 20% off everyday. I payed less than $1,350 for EVERYTHING I needed to put this tourpack on my RG after taxes. I also got the quick detatch hardware so I can remove it anytime I want. I will tell you that it is different from the hardware for the quick detach backrest. They mount in two different places.
