Thumbs down First Harley???

Hey. I am considering my first Harley - the Roadking. I am 40 and just started riding 3 summers ago. This spring I purchased a Yamaha Roadstar 1700cc - it is beautiful and a nice ride - I get many compliments on the looks and I have enjoyed it all summer. BUT - I have ALWAYS wanted a Roadking and just don't feel completely satisfied not owning one. My problem is this - even though I can afford the Roadking, I get a feeling of "pre" buyers remorse when I think about the 5 to 10,000 bucks more to buy it (depending on new or used) and the cost of ownership with the maintenance schedule. Can you help to justify the bike to me - specifically, has anyone gone from a nice metric to the Roadking? Any regrets? Can you compare the bikes to me?I can't imagine not being happy with it but I first want to hear similar stories and your opinions.Thanks.

Harley's are like kids you will always love them and you will always spend money on them.
This is where you can use the phrase "always and forever" because you know it to be so.

Don't you have choices to choose from ?. It's alot similiar as to whether you want to buy a Yugo or Chevy vehicle. Just bite your tongue by buying Road King of your choice. Like Harley's motto says it all..."If I have to explain, You wouldn't understand."

In my case, I just want to spend my hard earned money on American Products as much as I can. Just sayin' Metrics can be nice bikes, but it's not for everyone, Ya know.

Bottom Line: Just don't be a troll on here especially your first post. Please, Keep an open mind as we're all happy to help you out.

Good Luck with your choice,

Thorey

Don't buy a brand new one if you are going to have the buyers remorse. Buy used, see if you feel the same way once it is yours. Buying a used bike could save you thousands. I started out on a metric bike, and I quickly knew, that it just isn't the same. I have never had one day of remorse for owning a harley.

Good luck with your decision.

I owned a honda vtx and V-star 1100 but always wanted a harley finaly made the jump to a Electraglide. I would not go back. I have spent less money on upgrade parts for the harley than I ever did for the yamaha. I think the ride on the harley is great improvement over the yamaha or honda (Wife will not let me go back rear seat is very improved for her). Handling with the belt is better verses the shaft drive. Better gas milage with the harley around 45-47 on Freeway could only get 42 with the 1100. Changing oil on the harley is very easy compared to the honda or the yamaha. plus i like the fact that engine oil, primary oil, and Trans oil are all separate on the harley. Plus I will not even tell you how much money i lost selling the honda or the yamaha.

Nothing like the potato potato sound of the harley. Additude is everything

I had a 08 Road Star Silverado. Traded it in after 6 months of ownership and purchased a 09 Ultra Classic with no regrets. Just wasn't happy with the Yamaha. I now have 8k miles on the Ultra and loved every mile.

I always wanted a Harley too and traded my 03 VTX 1800 for an 08 Ultra Classic and have never, never looked back. It was my 50yh B-day gift to my self.

No offense, but stay with the Yamaha. If you're whining about cost before you've even made a purchase you'll probably never be happy. If you really want the Road King then step up and buy one. You don't need any affirmations from anyone else.

Had Yamaha - Ducati - Now Harley, and been by far my favorite, and my next bike will be a harley. Not knocking the the Metrics just there resale isn't there and many have shaft drive and I am not really into that. JMO
