Just got my king back from the dyno shop on Friday. I had excessive popping on decel. I am sure I had some leaks in the exhaust which added to it.
After dyno, I am up to 77 hp with 83 torque. I have some popping still, but very minimal compared with before. A buddy is coming over later today to use my lift on his Honda. While he is working on that, I'll hook my laptop up to my PCIII and look at the map.
I thought adding fuel at the zero throttle mark will increase your idle. Am I wrong in that thought?
If it does increase idle, what can I do to reset idle to a slower rpm while maintaining the richer mixture?
No it does not effect the idle speed, just add the fuel in 5 increments to the 0 colunm front and rear than save and send to your pcv.
"Decel popping," as it's usually called, is a usually unappreciated popping sound made when you roll-off the throttle to decelerate. If you have a PC or other tuner that can adjust fuel at 0% TP you can usually dial the popping out completely by adding fuel to that area of the map. I've never had a problem with this for some reason and have my 0% column set rather lean, at -10 when I had the PCV installed. Others get the popping and you should add five at a time to the value until it is gone. Sometimes a leaky muffler joint can cause this, so make sure your clamp is tight and you aren't getting any leakage. Don't over-torque, as 60 lb/ft is the spec.
James is right that more fuel means it will negatively affect mileage, which is why I keep mine as lean as possible.
Hey iclick, I'm still not sure I understand or if I am experiencing what some call popping and if I should attempt to figure out how to access the PCV and tune it out? Mine doesn't pop, but in any lower gear and RPM range above say 2500 when I run the RPMs up then quickly shut it down, or when coming down steep hills using a lower gear as a brake I get a kind of constant burbling. Even at idle, if I quickly snap open the throttle then let it close just as quickly again, no pops but a burble from the Vance and Hines Pro Pipe. I wish someone had a sound bite of the popping? Jamie set my PCV up based on what I told him I had so I'm not sure what he would have set in those columns? Bike runs good though!
I must be insanely lucky. I am running a V &H 2-1 Big Radius with V&H Fuel Pack and I get almost NO popping at all. Infact so seldom that I dont even notice it....
Popping on decel is somewhat normal @ 2000 rpm and under. It is caused by the ecm leaning the mixture. I suppose you can get rid of it by going with an aftermarket tuner, which I don't have. I run the SE tuner, Vance and Hines slip-ons, 07 FLHTCU, 8 hours dino time and 46 MPG one up. I happy with it.
I added 15% at 0% throttle between 1,250 rpm and 4,000 rpm in my PC-V tables (both cylinders) and I completely eliminated the popping I had. Like iClick suggested, go by increments of 5% until the popping disappears.
I haven't noticed any difference in terms of mpg. The big difference I noticed since I modified the tables is the price per gallon, not the miles per gallon.
