Lightbulb Need to remove fairing console

I'm working on putting a garage opener in my fairing. Going with a two door opener. I have wired the two switches of the opener to a DPDT toggle switch. Now I need to mount the toggle on to one of the empty switch locations on the fairing console.

I believe the ignition switch needs to be removed along with some screws. Has anyone gone through this to provide the procedure taken to get the console removed?

Thanks!

EGs, you turn the ignition to the lock position. With the key in the switch feel on the underside of the switch for a small lever(about 1/4" long), push up on the lever and turn the key a quarter turn counter-clockwise and lift up on the entire switch. Once the switch is out(be careful there is a spring on the under side) you can remove the bolts on the sides and the large retaining ring and collars from the switch. Pay attention to the order of the ring and collars they only go together one way.

Been thinking about doing the same. I've seen some of guys use a HD switch that will match others in console it's pn 71764-07. I believe this switch was intended for power locks on bags for some models but you can use it for door opener. Might check as many door openers actually run on 12volts. When I ran a aftermarket fairing on one of my old bikes I wired the door opener to permanent 12 volt power.

Jasilva,

Thanks, I have partial success. I was able to get the ignition switch off and removed the torx screws located on each side. What I'm looking at now, under the ignition switch, is a large silver collar and what appears to be a think black plastic washer. Any clue on how these are removed?

Appreciate your time.

3/4" wrench on the silver collar, it's threaded onto the ignition switch shaft housing, once that comes off the black collars slip off(there should be 2 that interlock), then carefully pry off the ignition legend panel(lock, ign., access. marked piece)then you should be able to remove the dash panel. Be careful the panel interlocks with the bottom of the inner fairing and you can bust it if you brute force it off.

Thanks for your input Jasilva,

Just finished up installing the toggle and works great! Just need to order a complete black, duckbill, waterproof toggle to replace the one I just installed.

Thanks again!

Thumbs up

About $20 cheaper than the HD version from one of the discount dealers. I have the HD version on both bikes, once you buy the complete kit for one bike you just buy the transmitter for additional bikes. It's a great system(HD or the Flash2pass), you flash the lights as you get within a couple hundred feet of the garage and by the time you get there the door is up. I don't even put a foot down until I'm in the garage.
