Well for the 3rd time the radio on my 07 Road Glide crapped out. Lucky for me the last two times was under warrenty, but not now. Had my full of the HK system and was looking for advice in replacing it with something more dependable & still use my hand controls and plug in my Road Teck XM satellite radio.

You and me both.Mine works when it wants too.Still under warranty but I'm afraid I'll get a rebuilt one which will end up quitting.Think I'll go with a Biketronics package this winter.
Did the dealer state what the cause was of the radio going bad? I'd hate to see you burn out an aftermarket radio when the problem might not be the radio it's self.
The HD radios are not worth fixing. Not only will you get better sound out of an aftermarket radio you can get xm for about $100. The HD will cost you $500 for xm. I have a Kenwood and I love the usb port for recorded music. You can put 4000 songs on the one I have and it was less than $30. Ditch the HD radio and go aftermarket, get the Hawg wired install kit and controls and you can still use the handlebar controls on your bike.
Multiple failures on an 07 is a clear indication of broken fairing brackets. Check the brackets or you'll end up destroying your aftermarket unit.
If you want to reduce the cost of your aftermarket purchase you can sell your HK to Iron Cross Audio. They even buy the broken ones.
The HK radios seem to have about a 2 year shelf life, then they start to go. It happened Happened to my '06. I sold it after i recently had a refurbished unit put in under warranty and afew months later the guy called me and told me it took a dump too. I've got an '09 now and it will be interesting to see how long this one lasts, LOL! when the warranty run's out I'l be going the aftermarket route too. It's a shame that we have had to deal with tis for 4+ years on a 20K bike. :-(
Funny thing is a freind of mine bought a new Subaru and the radio started giving her prblems and took a dump also. Care to guess what kind of unit thay have?.........Harmon Kardon................. :-)

I noticed that you have Sirrus radio and have the HK head unit, how does that work? I thought you could only work the XM ($500) with the HK unit?
How about a week, that's how long it took for my 2010 to crap out. I hear (I think on this site) that Hd has made a change on their radio supplier, we can only hope that there is some truth to this.

I don''t think it will matter if the radio comes from a different supplier if HK still makes the same radio
