I used Ballistic on my entire (inside of the outer) fairing. Great stuff, a snap to install, worked much better than the 1/2" Neoprene I was using before... Took the "tub" out of the fairing nicely.

I use J & M's fairing/speaker acoustic pads. It only cost $36.99. They are pre-cut with peel & stick adhesive. Very simple install.

What was the change in sound quality for you or anyone else that has done this mod? In the JM add pic it looks like the whole fairing is covered in the supplied material but the item description says you only get two pieces (left and right). Would there be any benefit to putting dynamat or a similar material in the center so the whole fairing is covered?

Are there any other folks with the same set up or different set ups that are effective in producing better quality sound from the two fairing speakers?

I am having the hog tunes speakers, tweeter pod and amp installed while my inner fairing is off for paint. I don't plan on adding any more speakers to the bike so I am looking to optimize what I have. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have the J&M insulating pads and they seem to do a pretty good job. Biggest issue with dynamat is the weight over time. Not that it weighs a ton, but when you attach it to a plastic fairing that's only held on by 7 bolts, and those attachment points as we all know are prone to failure even in stock configuration, it may add extra stress to your fairing that you don't need. The J&M stuff is lightweight, and designed for a motorcycle. I haven't researched dynamat in quite sometime but I would think they would have a motorcycle specific product now. Check them out too.

I have installed the J&M on one RG and 5 SGs and all owners found a great improvement in overall sound esp bass

I also installed the J&M pad when I installed my roller xt's. I never ran the speakers without the pad so I can't speak on the difference but everyone that hears my system comment on the bass and how loud it is. The padding does make it a tight fit when re installing.

I found the J&M pads only sound like they are increasing the base but what they really do is deaden the sound, muffle it. Way too much sound is absorbed by those pads, when the sound is absorbed you don't get it back in base or anything else. It's like covering your radio with a pillow. J&M products are a vast improvement over stock, but I would leave off the pads.

Sorry I got to you too late. I used a $10 closed cell neoprene kitchen mat, cut it in sections and spray glued it in place, works great. In a thread a while back I posted a copy of the templates I used for all the sections of the fairing cut-outs. Hope the high dollar stuff works as well as my budget solution. Found it https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...r-fairing.html
