Any reason why?

How about your combo here?

Any input/advice on the 54?

Simply put, S&S makes a great product, but I know what they can do in the build you are working on. The S&S570's come in early for a great low-end punch, and with the head work and pipe you have the bike should pull like a freight train until you hit the rev limiter. I helped a close friend of mine do a build similar to what you're doing and his bike runs away from any 95" build with screamin' eagle cams and heads.

The 570s would be my choice "if" your compression is over 10:1. Closer to 10.5:1 would be even better. I ran a set of those cams in a 95" Road King for about 50K miles. Bike made 96 Hp and 106 lbft Tq. Was a GREAT performer.

Would that be "corrected" compression?

At 10.5..... might have some pinging with the rotten California 91 gas....?

If you are around 10:1 CR, then I would go with either the Woods TW-6 or TW-6H.
If you are around 10.5:1 CR, I would go with the Woods TW-5.

With the proper tune, you will be fine on 91 octane with whatever build you go with.

I have the 54's, and like them. They are supposed to be happier with the higher compression pistons I installed. I'm getting 87hp and 101 torque; but your numbers may vary. My heads were ported and polished for street use, and I stayed with stock valve sizes, so the air thruput may be different. It all depends on what you are looking to get out of your build; I wanted more bottom end torque.

To do that, you'll need to have your heads CC'ed and milled and also measure your deck height so you can know for sure what you are working with.

Woods TW-6 is another great choice, and is a bolt-in .510 lift cam, it likes 10:1 compression.

Both great cams. Im running the 6 and have no complaints.
Like maine said target compression would be 10.1-2:1
It works suprisingly well for a bolt in cam. Mine hits hard (breaks 100ftlbs) at 2500rpm and doesnt fall below until 5700rpm. By then the HP is already above 100. 6200rpm (rev limiter) comes quick.
Dont do much downshifting with a powerband like that

Get decent fuel here, but also miserable heat/humidity in the summer.
No pinging/detonation problems whatsoever.
