I was at the Harley dealer talking about exhaust system and tuner for my 2010 SG which they do not have, they said it would be 3 more weeks. I told them I'm leaning towards Fuel*Moto, they said if I use their system Harley will void my warranty. Anybody know this to be a fact or are they just trying to convince me to buy my exhaust from them.
The way I read the fine print on my HD Race Tuner (SEST) it says it voids your warranty as well so what is the difference? It specifically says for off road use only!
I installed the fuel moto pipes,PVC and air cleaner on my 09 Ultra, three days later I was traveling in Maine and my bike started to miss and work crappy. I stop at a Dealer and they checked the bike and said they found a loose connection on the PCV and no gap on the rear spark plug and the bike was good to go. I had my doubts on this as I plugged the PCV in myself and check the plugs after I ran the Fuel moto about 400 miles.
Down the road about 40 miles the bike was still working crappy so I called them and they told be to unplug the PCV which I did, which didn't change anything.
I took the bike back to them the next morning with the PCV disconnected and they found the front plug wire was bad. They replace the plug wire and then reinstall the PCV
for me without me asking them too. They cover the work under warranty for me.
If I was you I would find a new dealer.
Sounds like your dealer is an a-hole. He personally might not do any warrenty work for you, just because he thinks it's Payback time. But other dealers I have found always work around stuff like this.
There are several HD dealers in close proximity to me that are DynoJet tuning centers & dealers. Guess they figured if you can't beat em join em ! Find one close to you to avoid the BS dealers. http://www.powercommander.com/powerc...s/Default.aspx
I asked my dealer about doing the stage 1 and if it will void it. He told me that they would honor it because the stage 1 is a minor upgrade. They get paid to work on bikes with warranty issues so why say no to them. That still don't mean a damn thing to me until they actuall cover something so it's a wait and see game. *If it is a big repair order it may be reviewed by moco and certain upgrades would give them an easy out to not honor it. There is just no cut and dry answer to the warranty issue question that's why some just dismiss it all together. Some dealers work with you better than others and mine seems to be ok so far. No one wants to have their hands tied to a repair bill for your bike if the damage was caused by you or some aftermarket part you used. All the void the warranty disclaimers for the upgrades covers their can and keeps them in control. *
Maybe they thought you looked and acted a little too much like a "Fed". I don't know what kind of an employee you were talking to, but he/she is stupid. You can have those same exact parts installed at any Harley dealer all across the country. Harley knows we won't buy their bikes unless we can mod 'em the way we want to. They and their dealers know how much money is made by the dealers installing all kinds of aftermarket equipment. Good luck to HD if they start biting the hand that feeds 'em.
Print out the Magnusson-Moss Act and take it to that particular dealer and tell him to jam it in his ***. He is lying, probably deliberately.
HD, or any automotive/motorcycle manufacturer, cannot void your warranty for using aftermarket parts. The worst that they can do is to not fix something that broke under warranty if they can prove that the aftermarket part caused the breakage.
I've gone through this crap with one of my local car dealers when I put an aftermarket intake and exhaust on my car and they claimed it caused issues with the intake manifold butterfly screws. Which was a known issue by Nissan I might add. I called Nissan North America and told them what the dealership was trying to pull. I got a call from the dealer later that day and they replaced my entire motor under warranty.
