Hello everyone. I recently bought an '06 Street Glide. I'm a fairly short guy (5' 5") and this was the primary reason I choose the Street Glide over the RK or EG std. Anyhow, I bought Harley's reach seat thinking that it would lower me enough to allow me to sit with my feet flat on the ground. However due to the width of the nose of the seat I still can't get my feet flat. I've been searching the forum looking at the various opinions on lowering kits. I understand that most here feel that the SG shouldn't be lowered any more than it already is. I'm planning on buying the front fork lowering kit from HD in the future. Will this lower the seat position very much if at all? I don't want to buy the 11.5" progressive shocks right now so my options are to look into a rear lowering kit such as those sold on Ebay (I'm considering one that allows for an adjustable drop from 3/4" to 3") or find another seat that has a narrower nose to it. Would anyone have any recommendations on a low profile seat that would both move me forward as the reach seat does but also offer the narrow nose that I am looking for? I've had Corbin seats in the past, would their close solo seat fit my needs? Thanks in advance for any feedback.
Well, I am also 5'5" and have an Rk Custom, which has the same suspension and seat height as your SG. I can tell you that the Mustang seat is good for short guys like us, because it is narrow in the front, allowing your legs to come straight down better. You can see my sig and gallery for pics. HOWEVER, I do NOT think it will sit you forward as much as your Reach seat. Try to find one to sit on first if possible and see what you think. I cant say anything about lowering kits, because I went with the shocks instead. Good luck-I know what you're going through.
Instead of dropping the suspension why not look at having the seat modified. There are several companies than can modify the seat that have web sites. I am sure that someone on this board can point you in the right direction. I have seen several posts concerning seat modifications but I just can not remember the names (CRS disease).
the progressive shocks will get you 3/4 " more in the rear than the harly shocks I beleve my dad did both the progressive shocks and lowerd the front end on his e-glide he is 5'5" and rides 2 up with that set up semes to work well (much more balanced than my s-glide) but when ive rode 2 up on it I drag the floor boards diffrence being I am 6'1" and 235 he is around 160 hope this helps.
Shaving down the seat yourself is not that difficult. Remove the rivits from the underside, peel back the cover material to expose the foam. Use an electric carving knife to trim down the foam where necessary. When you have it just the way you want it use a spray adhesive on the foam and restretch the cover and replace rivits.
I too am short...5'5 on a good day. I went with a Corbin Gambler saddle, custom built. If you call Corbin (and can wait for your seat to be produced), they will customize it by giving it a "nose job" to reduce the width of the front section.
They can also make any of their saddles into "close" models, which will push you forward as much as you want. They even take your measurements to help you decide, and if you live close by, you can go in for a "seating".
The other advantage of having the seat customized is that you can pick fabrics. I went with the standard leather for the seating area (it is their recommended soft leather for comfort) along with faux ostrich on the sides. I also sent them my sissy bar pad and they covered it to match the seat.
Hi BDJHOG: Legends air-ride is pricey, but nothing like it. Total Is 3/4 more up, 3 1/2 more down. I to could not flat foot. My legs are bent now. If you need stiffer for passenger add air. It Is GREAT......... roid
I am having the same problem. I am 5'8 and I can't get flat footed on my SG. My friend has an EG and the front of his seat is narrower then mine and I can get my feet flat. I don't know if I should get my seat cut down or just get a new one? I want a seat that is comfortable for me and a passanger and still look good. Has anyone tried the Rallyrunner seat?
