Default RE: Help me get my feet flat!!

bdjhog,

I ordered my custom seat via phone from Corbin. It was perfect, both in tems of fit and finish (I had them create the seat with the standard leather on the top and faux ostrich on the sides). I ordered the seat in Feb, and it arrived in about 2 weeks. (Of course right now I would expect it to take much longer.)

Once I received the seat, I decided to have them reupolster my sissybar pad to match. So I sent the pad to them and was VERY disappointed in the fit the leather when they returned it (although I was pleased that it was turned around quickly).

So I emailed Corbin's customer support and we went back and forth via email a couple of times. I sent them pics displaying the poor workmanship and they then called me back to tell me that they'd redo the job. I could not have been happier with the reworked job, abnd again, they did it very quickly.

They did explain that by upolstering the pad in the faux ostrich that the job was bound to turn out poorly in the 1st place because it is not a very workable material (the salesrep should have known this but didn't). When they reworked the job, they used the standard leather on the back, with the faux ostrich on the front. Apparently, this gave them the ability to strech the leather to perfectly fit the pad. All in all, a good experience with their customer support.

PM me if you'd like me to email you some pics.

Thanks, John

I'm 5'9" with about a 31" inseam. I slammed my Ultra, and I do mean slammed. 2" lower in the front and 2.5" lower in the rear. Riding now kinda reminds me of the old country song. "Give me 40 acres and I'll turn this rig around". It looks great but I can't even turn into a parking lot with out scraping something. I'm gonna go back up to a stock Street Glide height. I ride a Corbin Hollywood Solo. It's about the thinnest seat on the market. It's pretty comfy for me, but I ride solo all the time. I'd look to the seat options first. Though I went quite a ways below stock on the Ultra, mine would only be about an inch lower than your bikes stock height. I'd really exhaust all the other options before you lower it. Not to mention if you just lower front or rear and not the other. You are going to throw off the geometry of the bike and your handling will go down the drain.

I ride a road glide, and am 5'5"
I had the glide lowered both front and rear and have a reach seat.
When stoppped and standing, I am flatfooted, but when sitting back on the seat I am not. I currently wear Doc Martens and these helo with the thicker sole.

As far as bottoming out...I have scraped floor board a few times. Of course this all depends on how aggressively you are riding too. Although I scraped the board Once on a low speed turn. I do miss being able to really lean the bike like my Sportster, but its not bad. I have never actually had the suspension bottom out. Then again, I only weight 130lbs. I did go 2 up with my wife, and between the two of us, bike full loaded with tourpack, never once had the suspension bottom out either. This was with no air in the shocks.

I would like to get a slightly thicker boot. I am apprehensive of playing with the seat, as that can get expensive fast, though I find my rear gets sore after a longer ride, but the highway pegs assist me in that area.

Overall, its each to his own, but do be aware that if you really like throwing the bike over, lowering is not for you.

I, too, ride a SG. I have the same inseam problem The first thing I did was replace the stock seat with a Road King seat. The stock seat was too wide at the tank. The RK seat fixed that. However, I was still not flat footed on both sides. I have since bought a Reach Seat. That helped a lot but it is not as comfortable as the RK seat. I got the driver backrest too and just finished a 3600 mile round trip from Yuma, AZ to Burlington, IA. It was not bad at all. Did 700+ miles one day. A good set of boots with thick soles helps, too.
