Default dealing with AAFES HARLEY SALES

Has anyone purchased a Harley through AAFES military sales? What king of experience have you had, and was the purchase worth the hassle. I am currently deployed to IRAQ and I am looking to purchase a 2007 ROADKING standard, and could any tips or suggestions with working with this company on the purchase.

A friend/co-worker of mine just came back from Iraq about a month ago. He purchased a Heritage Springer (the one with the black front end) before leaving Iraq. Bought it through AAFES for 17K out the door. The bike is due for delivery in mid-July at the local dealer. He said it was a good experience with no problems. I can ask him for more info if you like and get back to you? Let me know......

I didn't Know AAFES did that? Do you have to be TDY? Or can you do it while home on Reserve status?

Vehicle sales are restricted to those who are OCONUS. I don't know about a short TDY status but is probably OK for extended TDY. Anyone would have to check with the local AAFES facility. There should be no problems with your ordering while deployed.

Be safe and keep your head down.

Bought my SG through AAFES, and a buddy of mine bought his Road King at about the same time. Definitely worth it. Saved not quite 2 grand off of MSRP, which is much better than my favorite dealer could get me (they were holding solid to the MSRP, no wiggle room).

That being said, I had some issues with mine. It was all paperwork problems, but I had to spend a fair amount of time chasing it down and making sure it happened. The Iraq staff was good, and the New York staff helped straighten everything out, but the Dubai staff dropped the ball on several pieces of paperwork and I had to do some scrambling to fix the money on time. Nothing insurmountable, and I'd definitely do it again.

So my piece of advice is: Keep up with every piece of paper (obviously) and check on every stage of the game. Check your initial deposit (mine never came out of the bank, and I had to adjust my down payment to include it). Follow any financing paperwork and check back with them on the progress. Double check the delivery destination they have on file. If you do anything with a power of attorney (basically one authorizing someone else to pick up and register the bike for you) make sure that gets filed and sent to the receiving dealer. In the end, just keep on top of the salesman at every step until you can confirm each step is complete. Once the order is placed, you can track some of this online, and do the follow ups by email. As I said, the breakdown for me was in the middle, in Dubai where they process the paperwork, so make the salesman confirm that everything makes it to New York.

Now, although I had some paperwork issues, my buddy's experience was flawless, and there's some other folks on the forum who have been through the process without a hitch. I'm willing to say my experience was a fluke, and in the end I'm quite happy with the results.

Good luck.

I bought an 01 FXD and an 03 FXDL while in Italy and Greece. You will save a 2000-3000, plus if you ship stateside you will save more than I did with oversea shipping cost. Had a minor glitch with the 03 but they worked it out. If you are there long enough to wait for the 2007 models, they should hit around Aug or Sept if I remember correctly. Here's the link to Exchange New Car Sales to see what is in stock. It must be listed as stateside for you to get it delivered in the states.

I would like to see Harley Davidson do something special for all combat veterans after their service is over.

I know everything is about MONEY but I think they should be able to do something.

I checked the AAFES for H-D purchases when trying to find the best deal on my RG. The Okinawa, Japan AAFES only offers this to active duty who have been assigned to the area for more than 90 days. Retires aren't eligible for it and the savings on a HOG is about $1300. Not worth spending three months on Okinawa for.
