Thanks to everyone who responded. I made my mind up and put my money down on a 2007 road king. The bike has a delivery date of 2 October 06 to my local dealer. I will watch Dubi to make sure they do not drop the ball.

I would like to see Harley Davidson do something special for all combat veterans after their service is over.

I know everything is about MONEY but I think they should be able to do something.

I can't speak for other dealerships... but Ray Price HD in Raleigh NC does a military appreciation week... Discounts and special events... I'm retired AF so I enjoy going down there and being appreciated!!!!

Has anyone purchased a Harley through AAFES military sales? What king of experience have you had, and was the purchase worth the hassle. I am currently deployed to IRAQ and I am looking to purchase a 2007 ROADKING standard, and could any tips or suggestions with working with this company on the purchase.
Hey Robert, I ordered and received via OMCS after an OEF rotation last year. Regardless of what you asked for, HD alots a certain number of bikes to OMCS and then they attempt to match the bikes to the orders. You are NOT guarenteed your model/color/options, though they all come with the extended warranty (and security system for the FLH). Case in point: I asked for a Road King in Black Cherry, they couldn't fill it and said to wait until Feb 06 (6 more months!) to see if HD gave them one. So I chose option 2, which is to go to the OMCS web page and search their available bikes. I picked out another model and got it on the original delivery date.

I will echo the sentiment that you need to stay on top of both the OMCS people in New York and your delivery dealer. My dealer just sat on the information until I contacted them--they're not making money so YOU need to be proactive in getting your bike. I will also say that in my extended area, smaller-volume dealers can match the OMCS price, plus you will make a new set of friends. But I also saved $1200 from MSRP, because my local dealer doesn't mark-up like some of these other places.

Now that I have the bike and everything is hunky-dory, I will say it was worth it. But for a while there, I was doubting the process. Good luck, and if you get the story that your bike didn't get allocated, look at what else they have available and see if you'd rather have something else. Worked for me: I got an Ultra instead of a RK.
