Default 99 Electra Glide Classic

Have a buddy looking at buying a 99 Electra Classic. This bike has the 88TC in it. He was wondering if there was any particular concerns for that model. I mentioned the chain tensioners for the cams but could'nt really think of any others. Remembered when the TC first came out they had problems with the oil pump or bearings can't remember which for sure. Any help would be appreciated.

There was also an issue with the stator shorting out due to oil getting inside the plug. The fix under warranty relocated the connector so oil couldn't flow to it (raised it up).

Another common issue a bad bank angle sensor.

These were both "unannounced" recalls that Harley would fix when the bike was under warranty.

I looked at a 99 RK. The bike had 5600 original miles and was beautiful. I made an offer of $9000 out the door. The dealer wanted $10,000 and rejected my offer. After talking to a local bike shop, I'm glad he rejected my offer. Upgrading the cam system, new tires (they were showing some cracks between the tread), and a new seat for the wife, the total investment was going to more than what the bike was worth.

I continued to shop around and ended up finding an 09 FLHTP for a very good price and purchased it with a complete warranty.

you can go to a HD shop and give them your vin# and Harley will tell you if the cam bearings were changed. practically all of the 99s that are still arround have had the bearings changed by now.'
my 99Clasic has near 83K on it and has been a great bike. still has the orginal cam tenisoners. I think I will change them out this yr thou. the 88TC in the ElectraGlides arent real powerhouses, but I'm a crusier and its just fine for me.

The early 99s had the cam bearing problem. The RK that I looked at was an early model. The dealer contacted the original owner and he stated the engine was never "opened up". That was the primary reason I avoided it.

It also has the old fuel injection system, if it is fuel injected that is. I put 60,000 miles on a 99 classic without any trouble at all. However, air cleaner choices are very limited.

He brought a pic of it into work today looks like it is brand new, Aztec gold and ice something. Interesting colours. Not a high miler about 20,000 km's and he contacted a local dealer who said he'd run the VIN to see if the recalls have been done or even required. He's pretty stoked about this bike as his 82 FLH is getting to be 2 hrs wrenchin for every hour of puttin.
