It was said on another thread but it's true Harley pays engineer gooroo's tens of thousands of dollars a year to research the best tire for your bike.
It's OE for me.
Original equipment Dunlops. Go to any HD dealer and they will have what you want, what you need, when you need it, anywhere, any time. Just try and place an internet order for some other name brand tire when you are on the road..... HD dealers are everywhere.
Just changed tires 1K ago to Metzlers from the [sm=badidea.gif]Dunflops[sm=badidea.gif]....There is a world of difference in the tires. Dunflops when you ride over ridges, grooves or cracks in the asphalt or concrete it feels like the hansdlebars are getting ripped from your hands.
NOT with Metzlers, better grip, better turning capabilities, smoother ride overall; a superior tire to the dunflops!!
On my '92 FLHS these eliminated the weave in high speed sweepers I experienced with OE Dunlops. In my experience the mileage was comparable to the Dunlops and wet and dry handling was significantly better.
I did not vote but want to find out the answer as I will be replaceing tires soon. Many people swear by ME880's or the avons over the Dunlops. Others favor the Dunlops-available at any HD dealer. The side walls are supposed to be a lot heavier on the Dunlops- aperson that sells all three says there is a noticeable difference in weight between the Dunlop and Me880-Avon. One member on another board said the ME880's were "A gift from GOD". Others say they will never go back to a Dunlop. Everyone has an oppinion. The main reason I don't like the 402's is the way they track on grooves in the road.
I'm going to stick with the Stock Dunlops. I've done several burn out's and have 7000 miles and it still looks pretty good. Beside's I havent seen any other good looking wide whites out their other then the Dunlop. Just my 2cents.
I'm surprised you guys need to change your front tires so often. I've been getting 30-35k on fronts, 12-14k (12k lately) on rears. I keep pressures at 37F/42R cold, no 2-up riding.
I have an 05 ultra and just replaced my rear tire with the same as what was on it. I was happy with the old one and am happy with the new one. I went with avons on my old touring bike and they cornered better but straight line wasnt as good. Metzlers gave the same result.
