'05 ultra needs new tires. 12k on the original dunlops now, but heading to Florida in 2 months and would like new skins front and rear. Your opinion counts. What are you currently riding on and what, if anything will you switch to? Thanks in advance

I am having new tires put on my 04 Road King today. OEM. I put 16K on the original set and see no need to switch.

Andy, i was heading north in my wifes car, from Nashville saturday, there was a big honda of some kind in front of me. At about 55-60 mph i heard a pop. i knew what happened. I immediately slowed down and stayed behind the honda til he and she could pull over. They were scared s---less, the moral is if you think you need tires dont wait! Jack

I've used the following on my 99 RKC:

Stock Dunplops
Avon Venom X
Metzler ME880

Im currently on the Metz and like them the best for handling and overall feel. At the recommendation of many, I am running them at a higher pressure than I ran the others.

I've run the Metzler ME880's on my last two Road Glides and have had great luck with them. They were recommended to me by a close friend a few years ago and I'm still with them. As far as mileage, that's going to vary according to your personal riding style. Good Luck!

I like my Avon Venoms, but I havent used them on the stock 16" wheels, just the 21F/18R setup that I have now.

When I checked for replacement tires for my 2005 Ultra, Dunlop did not make the E3 in the size to fit the rear tire/wheel... I was bummed. All my Goldwing friends rave about how much better the bike handles, and the tread life is better than the 402's by about 20%!

Keep checking/confirming their availability.

The OEM Dunlaps will most likely get you the most mileage, the Metzlers will probably giv eyou the most feel/grip. Don't know anybody running the E3, but from what I have been told it will give you a little better grip than the OEM and a little less mileage. Personal opinion, go for the grip and replace your tires more often. As stated earlier, mileage will greatly vary based on how you ride. Good luck.

On my previous bike(EG) I tried them all. Avon, Continental, Metzler, Michelin. (I put over 90K on it) I went back to the Dunlop. Seemed to handle better and last longer than any of the others. I will replace the rear on my present bike soon. I plan to go back with the Dunlop.
