Try 75w90 or 80w90 GEAR OIL which is about the same viscosity as 10w40 motor oil.

Take a gander at HarleyTechTalk.com on this subject.

Use ATF. Drain the fluid, insert ATF, ride 2 hours, drain the fluid, insert ATF.
Now you are normal.

Really good artical on the primary.

Default In primary use 75/140 not atf

Use atf in the transmission if you are going to use it anywhere

Default atf in primary

I was told you could use any 10/40 oil in primary save your money

Assuming it's a regular touring model, the RP should not be causing problems. Just about any good 10w30 (or 40) that has little to no moly should be OK. You might have something else going on with the clutch.

As some have found, ATF works well in the primary. I would, however, not use 80w90 gear oil especially with cooler weather approaching.

Why not just use primary fluid? Pretty cheap at the dealer?
