I have an 09 SG also. It has started to similar things. It will wavering idle at some startups. A couple of times it died then when I restarted it it was OK. I have also noticed a rougher idle at stop signs & red lights. When I said something to the dealer they said it was normal. (That is their excuse for everything). It changed around 9000 miles is when I noticed it.
I would have a dealer check for fault codes. This might be a start.
I am guessing that the computer determines idle speed based on engine temperature. If that's the only info it uses during that operation, the temp sensor or connections might be faulty.
Dealer is so full of it....the guy has an idle that floats up and down, up and down, up and down for one minute......no engine floats up and down like that as a "normal warm up". Take it back and tell them to knock off the BS and fix it.

Several Harley dealers told me the download with the SE AC will cure that issue as I'm having it on my 09 Ultra. My buddy rented a 09 Ultra with the download and ac and sure enough on cold starts it idled around 1300 and dropped to 950 or so in about 10 seconds. Never did stumble or die. Planning on doing the same on mine now. Anybody heard about this fix?
Thanks
Both of our 2009 Street Glides here do the very exact same thing. To me, it's a normal operating condition. The bike does this on cold start in order to begin the warm-up process in the ECM's idle air control program. That doesn't sound like an indication of any problem.

hi..
i just bouight my 2nd 09 SG last week, the odo 2500 km now....
when i start it in cold engine temperature, the idle will jump from 1100-1300 for 1 minute....
after the bike warm, the idle will stable at 1000ish...
its not a big problem but pretty annoying me....
my bike is 09 SG, rinehart slip on, stock headpipe, stock air filter (just cut a big hole on the back cover of air filter to let the engine get bigger airflow)..
my idle bouncing before i cut the hole...
any wrong with my set up..??
why my idle will bouncing ?? do i need the pcv ?? do i need a new breather kit ??
thanks
regards
No big deal to me , mine has done the same thing since it was new....I have an '09 SG that I bought In May with the Stage 1 download installed before delivery and my bike starts and does the same thing (So I guess that that the Stage 1 download theory doesn't hold true in fixing this , don't waste your money there, LOL) .....the idle will fluctuate between 1300/1100, once the engine gets up to operating temp it settle into idle at around 950 - 1000 rpm. It never stalls so I guess it's "normal". BTW I've since gone to a PCV and it still does the same thing....
mine also does the same thing once in a while the rpm's will fluctuate during warm up only after which its constant i never loooked into it seems pretty normal to me
