I know this is a dumb question,.and probably shouldn't even bother,.but as to the title.
Before I go for a ride in the mornings I start my bike (2003 FLHRCi) and let it idle for 5mins to warm up. Then I shut it off,..and every time it coughs back out through the TB (air cleaner),..Just once.
Is it because it gets to warm or is this normal from a EFI.??
Mine does it sometimes, don't know why. But why shut it off if your about to ride? Don't really need 5 mins. to warm it up, just give it maybe a minute then take it easy for the first mile.

thanks for the reply.
I'm a handicapped rider,..I warm up the bike,..then go back into house and get dressed,..my boots and riding clothes are uncomfortable when I'm sitting in my wheelchair until I get in the saddle and take off.
crap happens.
Is the bike stock?
It is possible the timing is off a little, thus a last second spark, or perhaps a hotspot in cylinder from sitting and idling that long, causing a last second secondary ignition pop.
You didn't say what the outside temps were.
This is an air cooled motor, it does NOT cool down just sitting there and idling.
Fuel injection does not really need a warm up period of more than 30 seconds or so on a warm day. Start it, let the idle stabilize, crack throttle slightly once or twice, Then ride easy first few blocks, then ease into it. Mine rarely gets more than 30 seconds, and I go.
I know, I know, about the timing.
timing is computer controlled, but I understand dealer can adjust with the digital technician.
The sert is good too.
Bike runs rich during first startup, but then it leans out during warmup. Lean run at idle, can cause excessive heat build up.
thanks for the reply.

Could be swine flu I commend you on your commitment to freedom with your handicap. Does your bike have a different a/c on it, hi flow? After I installed my open element a/c I could here the ahhhhhh, a bit better after I shut the bike down. Mine does it all the time, and runs fine. To me it sounds like a pissed off gasp of air because I shut er down
