FLHRPI stalling
I would say good morning but I havnt had my first cup of coffee and I'm in a kill someone mood. I bought a 2004FLHRPI at the dealership 28 days ago. it has been in the shop a couple of times and its getting ready to go back. I will be sitting at a stop light and it lugs down a time or two and then dies and runs poorly after that. when I brought it in the last time they told me it was some sensore that regulates for heat and altitude. they replaced it and for 5 days it ran like a champ then last night it started doing it again. actually when I first fired it up the motor raced like the throttle was wide open then dropped down to luggingthen stalled and ran like crap afterword. does anyone have a clue what is going on. I am used to shovelheads and only know how to work on them. I knew when I bought it there was just something wrong about a bike with a computer in it but now I am sure of it.[:@]
My 98 did the same thing I had to have the dealer set the hot and cold idle settings twice before they got it right. Mine is a efi also and their is two screws behind the air cleaner they have to set while hooked to a computer/programer. It sucks having to keep taking it back but see if they can check that also may fix it.
well is it fuel injected.
If so, I would check the Idle air speed motor.
The Ecm controls it.
Ecm's are pretty dependable, but they do go bad.
If the IAC is sticking it can cause a high startup idle.
Then if it closes down too much at idle It will kill the engine.
Might just need cleaned.
Be sure to let us know what it turns out to be.

just got back from the dealership. as I rode into the garage The mechanic asked what was wrong, that the bike sounded fine. I asked him to ride it right then and now. he came back with a look on his face and told me that the police model comes with something that causes it to fire on one cyclynder when it gets to hot, and that it was screwed up in my bike. he asked if i wanted it fixed or removed and I told him to take it out completely. he's goingride it for a few days after its fixed to make sure all the bugs are worked out. thanks for ya'lls input into my situation.
since my last post on this subject I picked my bike up and a week later brought it right back again. it seems there is some kind of sensor that adjusts the carberation ( i hate this fuel injection system) and it went bad so they fixed it. Well the after changing the sensor they still couldnt get it running and after a week of messing with it realized the sensor they put in ( the new one) was bad. this is getting rediculous.
Find a different mechanic to look at it! Never hurts to get a second opinion!!! I dont know much about bike efi but i had a truck that the airflow sensor was going bad and it did just as you describe! My buddy also had a bad ecm in his car and it would cough and idle rough for a little while but would eventually run good agian!! Have them try a ecm mabey from a salvage yard cant hurt at this point. Good luck
