Default Here is another seat question,, oh boy

Ok I thought I had found my seat. Primo was selling his sundowner, so I bought it. Great seat nice and comfortable except for one thing... I felt like I was sitting on top of the tank literally. Almost like sitting in the backseat of a Yugo. Ok so this is no good. I called Primo and ask if I can get a refund. Primo being the stand up guy he is, says yeah no problem we can refund the seat. So I drive up to his part of town and we re-exchange the seat for money. Primo thanks! You did not have to do that.

I need more room on the bike. I have purchased the extended footboards, so that will move my legs forward some probably 2-4". I know that won't be enough. My butt needs to be about 3-5" further away. I think I will be going the custom seat route. I have added apes, so my hands are in the right position, and highway pegs are on the way too.

If you are taller than 6-3 and ride a touring bike what are you doing to get comfortable? If you are doing the custom seat who did you go through? Any ideas?

3 to 5 inches further back, good luck with that one, impossible if you wanted a backrest and needed to carry a passenger. Now I am 6'3" with real long legs and I find the Sundowner works very well, puts me lower than stock. Perfect reach to the bars with Cruiseboards and rider's backrest, that combo is doing the job.

I'm 6'2" and have the TallBoy seat - it does push me back a bit (just enough to feel better). However, seat specs say it raises you like a bit over an inch - have not noticed the raise. But I like it better than the stock seat.

What I don't understand is how tall guys like the Sundowner seat since it lowers / pushes forward. To each his own.

I don't find the Sundowner is pushing me forward at all. Wider and lower than the stock seat, it works very well and gives you the feeling of sitting IN the bike. I tried a Tallboy and found it much too high. For overall appearance and passenger comfort I have not seen a HD seat thats beats the Sundowner double bucket. A lot of the HD seats are just too bulky/puffy looking and just don't suit a Streetglide or a taller rider.

I'm 6'3" with a 35" inseam and I would love to find a seat that will push me back a few inches but there isn't one out there. I think the Tallboy is exactly what we DON'T want. I just put a sundowner on my bike and I really like the fit. All I need now is some highway boards like BountyHunter. Have a great Independence Day, guys.

Not necessarily looking for a backrest, and don't carry passengers. I just need a few more inches - back. 3-5 inches may be alot but I could use at least 2-3"

The stipper seat looks good though

For what it's worth...

First off I'm 6'2". I just switched out my Sundowner Solo for the Mustang Solo. I have had the Sundowner on the bike from 2 weeks out of bike delivery, bought the bike 7/2/05. When I swapped out the stock seat for the Sundowner I thought I would never get used to it. But after some time it became common place. It's been too long ago to really remember what it did in regards to positioning in compared to the stock seat. Well now that I have added the Mustang I'm having to deal with the change all over again. The Mustang, to me, definitely lowers and and sets you back a bit compared to the Sundowner and will definitely take some getting used to. Last night I repositioned my highway pegs and this afetrnoon I just pulled the handlebars back a bit, might even go with the Chubby 508's....who knows.

Basically I think that any seat change will require a little time just to get acclimated to the change that your body, legs, butt, etc. just aren't used to yet. Just my .02 worth.
