Default power commander

Ok, I would like a little advise, I have decide to go with the Rinehart exhaust on my 05 RK, I will also be putting on a different breather kit. My question is the power commander, I know I can just have it remapped but price wise would it be smarted to go with the power commander and if I do, do I still have to do the remapping?? I have seen different topics where they are saying to do the mapping anyway, why would I have to??

Think of the "power commander" as a programmable chip. If you change your set up you have to take it into the dealer and pay for them to re-map your onboard computer. A "power commander" and others allow you to make the changes to suit yourself and any other changes you make in the future. If you don't intend to make many changes then a simple re-mapping by the dealer is the cheapest route. BUT with making the changes that you are doing, either way you WILL have to change your settings.................Don

Here is the problem. The standard Harley download is for Harley replacement pipes and their stage 1 breather only. It will help some with the Rineharts but alot of people still have some back firing and popping when HD is finished. With the Power Commander and a dyno they can dial it in perfect. A lean mean running machine. Sorry about the expense[:@] but you are riding an $18,000 motorcycle.

terry nailed it!! atleast with the pc its adjustable they also have a site to download different maps, if you make changes. dyno tuning is always the best way to get max performance.

I have the Reinhart FL pipes, Screaming Eagle Air intake, Performance CAM, and Power Commander.

Does anyone have any more specific MAPs for the Power Commander other than that what is on the web site. I dont have access to a Dyno. It runs fine, just some popping on decel (kind of like the sound though).

Power is substantially better from 2500 to 3500 rpm. Love it

Keith,

Even with a dyno you sometimes get the popping on decel. Don't know where to get anyother maps but they can be altered on the dyno. Sorry

Thanks Terry, I appreciate it. Like I mentioned, I kind of like the effect and the power is great, it was just the description of the Map did not exactly line up with what I have done.

One reason for having the re-map done by the dealer in addition to the PC is that in the event you were on a trip or some distance from your home and for some reason the PC crapped out you could still get home without risking damage to your bike.

One of the often overlooked issues with re-mapping is that it voids your warranty...so says my dealer anyway. If you were to have an issue and they think it might be related to re-mapping, then they can request to see the ECM. I beleive this applies to all SE products marked (race or off-roadd only). My choice was power commander because taking it back to stock if I have a problem would be relatively easy. The dealer has no records that this bike has been altered.

I reserve the right to be wrong about this warranty issue, but it was a long discussion on how the dealer handles warranty claims. Note that most dealers would submit the warranty claim anyway. They know that by not doing so, it would screw up thier business. However, HD reserves the right to inspect parts which they believe have been altered related to claims.
