PROBLEM..Gerbing Heating Clothing
I just received my new gerbing clothing the other day. We were leaving on a two-day trip the following day, so I thought we were going to be able to enjoy them. Well, not so fast. I have the jacket and gloves. My wife has only the jacket. After the install we checked everything and it all warmed up. When we took off that morning her jacket worked fine and my gloves were fine. I really didn't think the jacket was very warm. Within an hour, my gloves stopped working and my jacket never warmed up. My wife's jacket kept her toasty. We checked the fuse and sure enough my fuse was blown. We replaced it and thought everything would be fine, but the gloves never heated up. My wife still had a nice warm jacket. At our next stop, we switched controllers. My gloves and jacket still didn't work. She also didn't have any heat. Does anyone have any idea what's going on. The install is easy and I double checked everything. Is it possible I have two bad controllers, or is something wrong with the clothing. I'm going to call Gerbing in the morning, but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this problem. Thanks in advance.

Each jacket is listed as drawing 6.4 amps and the gloves 2.2 amps making a 20 amp fuse needed. Is that what blew the first time? The line cord I have has a max 15 amp fuse written on the fuse holder. Not sure if this will help you any just info I found in the instruction manaul for my gloves,
step one.... run the jacket and gloves without the controller... try to narrow it down. COULD you have 2 bad controllers? sure... it's unlikely, but possible.
Step two (maybe this should be step one) make sure your harness connections are tight.
Look at the LED on the controller. do they light up? Check all connections,
I would at least try to run the gear without a contoller. use the "Y" cord the gloves came with and use that to power the jacket and gloves.
edited to add: OH YEAH!!! make sure you have TWO harness mounted, one for you, one for the wife

My wife and I have separate battery hook-ups, so I wouldn't think we would need 20 amp fuses. The connections are tight. I did hook up my jacket directly to the battery Y plug and it heated up. It sounds like the controllers...
Same thing happened to me and it was because I did not have the right fuse.
Started off with jacket and gloves only and I think the fuse that came with the original system was either a 5amp or a 10 map. All was good until I added the pants and bingo I'm in the cold!
Sure enough it was the fuse and upon reading the directions I discovered that a 15 amp fues was required for all components.
Not another issue all winter long (last winter).
I do carry an extra fuse with me just in case. I hate to be cold!

Agree with the post that says try one at a time and isolate the culprit. It is possible you have a defective product. Gerbings is very good to deal with. They'll make it right for sure.

Update.... I talked to Gerbing today and they believe that I may have a short in my jacket, which caused the fuse to blow and the controller to stop working. They think that when my wife and I switched controllers, I fried hers. Oh well, they are going to send me two more jackets and two more controllers. I should have everything by the weekend. Also, the battery hook-ups came with 15 amp fuses. Thanks.
