stopped at the dealer yesterday and looked at a 10 rg.first time i have given them a hard look.getting the itch for something different. there seems to be alot of space around the forks and cowling which to me would cause alot of air turbulence. do they make a filler piece or is this just how they're designed.use to have a sport tourer a few yrs ago and the area around the forks was tight.
I get no air comming from in there. the place I feel it most is the legs and with some lowers leather or hard itll clear it right up....but I dont know about a fillar in there...
my 08 RG came with a small wind deflector between the forks. It's not very big. I can't remember the official name for it but they have a chrome one listed in the parts catalog.

The difference between lowers/no lowers is significant. I run hard lowers (HD/non-vented) until it hits and stays over 95 here in TX. The buffeting at the upper shoulders/lower face is much worse w/o the lowers. It's bad enough for me that my glasses vibrate.
Also has a lot to do w/ the windshield you pick. Regardless, I'll keep riding Road Glides - plan to vent mine sometime soon. I do not run w/ my air baffle installed - not recomended with lowers.

I agree with your 1st. statement.
I have had the baffle on and off several times.I just leave it now because I notice no difference other than it looks like it directs air to the engine.

There is no air coming up from that area your speaking of. You would think by looking at the bike that it would be a huge wind tunnel heading to your face,... but you get no air coming up through there.
