I just had my cable break on the Tourpak and the lid fell down and cracked the box at the rear hinge. I am just wondering how many people this has happened to and what you did to prevent it happening in the future. The bike is a 2008 with 14000mi on it. The luggage rack was empty. I always hold onto the lid as I open it, not saying I haven't missed catching it, but rarely miss. This is my 3rd bike with a tourpak and this is a first time for breaking. A 2000 FLHTCI, 2003 FLHTCUI, and this 2008 FLHTCU.

OUCH!
Check Ebay out for a lower half.
Never had it happen to me, but wonder if you could swing by Home Depot, pickup a length of cable and the ends, make it yourself?
I believe in that same thread of the guy wanting to design a hydraulic lift was someone who posted that they took 2 tethers together and some heat shrink tubing and made one stronger one. I suppose you could also take a small dog chain that is made out of aircraft aluminum, or whatever they call it and make your own stronger cable. I personally never let it go without holding onto the lid, but that's not saying the wife does.
Sorry to hear about the damage, but I have to ask, How old is the bike and how did it happen, just fell ??? Did u have the rack loaded with a bag and open the lid ???
