I wish I could remember where I saw it, but I saw a bike that had a plastic storage box in the space for the stock radio. I think it had a hinged cover too. I don't know if it was homemade or something you could purchase. Dang, I wish I could remember! Sounds like it would have been perfect.

Most likely that was a marine radio cover found in a lot of boating magazines. They have a flip up water resistant front face. It would work great to keep stuff in the box. Probably could be mounted pretty easy too.
