I have an 08 Ultra and had to have it replaced last summer under warrenty.
With the cruise switched on the speed would only set after repeatedly hitting rocker switch to set. All would seem fine then the bike either would speed up on its own or the cruise would just shut itself off. Unuseable the waqy it was acting. We were on a trip down to Virginia and we were heading back to Ontario when this started to happen.
We went to a Harley dealer down there and they confirmed the switch but were unwilling to repair it so I had to ride back without the cruise control. Dealer back in Canada fixed it the following week for me.
I had mine go bad in less than a year. The cruise was an addon. Now out of warranty. I didn't mind paying $200+ for it the first time around but, damn I hate to pay it again for 1 failed switch.
Cruise disengages on it's own.
If accelerating with switch it will keep on going after you let go.
Had to replace my control switch (right side) this summer. 1000 miles into 4500 mile trip (Sturgis) it quit. My son liked the fact I had to 'twist' for the rest of the ride (he was on a Street Bob)! It was still under warranty and I'm given to understand this has been fairly common. Mine's an '08.
Had mine go out twice. Both times the check engine light would come on and the cruise would not activate. It was a micro switch in the housing. The bike is also an 08 Ultra
Mine went out on my 04 Ultra while on a trip. Dealer in York,PA worked on but could not fix and I could not wait for new part. They graciously offered to let us wash our bikes and furnished everything, including a power dryer. After drying the bike, including hand controls, the cruise worked fine. Could you possibly have some water in the contol housing from rain or washing?
