My wife and I have a set of BIG EARS these are custom molded to your ear, they where only about $70 a pair, they work great the fit perfect and are avaliable in a bunch of colors and the reason they make them in wierd colors is so you can easily find them if you drop they on the ground.

Wish I would have known all of this 45 years ago. Spending thousands of hours operating farm tractors has taken a big toll on my hearing! Especially in the early years, before aircondition, quit cabs. Then, I played the stereo radio/tape deck WAY too loud! ...Oh well, such is life...............

I hear you about the tractors. I have a mini tractor to cut about 4 acres. My ears are always ringing after getting off. I just started wearing ear plugs, whay a difference. I have a few people I know that ride with them all the time and they swear by them. I just started to use them and they are nice.
For some reason, I feel like I can't hear everything on the bike with them on, safety wise I'm referring too.

I've been using the Sure Fire plugs for a while now and really like them. It took a little getting used to putting them in but they work great and don't feel them in at all like the foam one's.

I guess as long as someone is using any kind of earplugs they are going to be in much better shape.

I use these on the range shooting all the time so I can vouch for the quality and fit. My wife uses them on her bike and loves them because of the fit and the fact that they are flesh colored so you don't see flashes of pink or yellow from the side.
They have alittle nib you can close off if you want more protection (sometimes when shooting higher calibers) or leave it open and you can hear conversations clear as day.
They come with a little case to carry them in so you don't misplace or loose them. Not expensive at around 10-12 bucks a piece if buying singles. Anyways, thought others might be interested.

The surefires are only rated at 16-19db NRR.

Howard Leight Max plugs (cheap on Amazon.com) have a 33db NRR.

Depends on what you're looking for, but for me I need plugs in the 30+ NRR range to be comfortable at 70mph+. Otherwise my ears hurt.

Jackinthebox,

http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/silnatrubear.html

This page has some plugs that are clear (external/visible portion) and have a NRR 32 rating.

http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/wimoearpl.html

Same site - different plugs that are all clear with NRR 19 rating.

http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net...ear-plugs.html

I personally use the custom molded plugs (mine are light blue) with a NRR of 26. They are very comfortable for wear over long periods. I use them for shooting skeet and sporting clays, pistol (indoor range), riding and while on the flight line prior to pulling on my helmet (high freq noise). I think the custom molded ones are the best I found to date.

I wear earplugs 12 hrs a day at work, for the last 19 yrs. Wear em to sleep between graveyard shifts and use em on the bike. Wear em when I go to concerts, and all you hear is the music and it sounds much better. They supply em and encourage us to take some home, so I oblige by stocking a drawer full at home. Even have my wife wearing them now.

How much do they filter the sounds from the stereo? It'd be nice to lower the exhaust noise but allow full stereo volume to get through, but that may be asking too much. Or, do they just nix all sound >80db? In that case they should work well.

2009 FLHRC Vivid Black Stock except for some bling

I get the disposable foam ones from work by the hand full, one less thing to worry about loosing. I wear them on long hauls on the highway. I wear a half helmet and using them seems less tiring. I do like to take them out in city traffic. I have lost half the hearing in my right ear from playing with firearms before they knew it was damaging and once it's gone it's gone.....
