I am confused as hell about the ear plugs now, as it seems that the Heroes anyway seem to change the tone/pitch of the wind noise to a low tone which has a more instant affect on my hearing. I want to get a set of custom plugs next to see what happens, just have to get some money.
That's basically been my experience. I found the sound to be louder and more irritating with the foam earplugs. It was almost like the wind was vibrating the earplugs and making more racket. Odd. I thought it was just me.
Actually it was quite a while....like the rest of the evening that I had trouble hearing. But I already have serious damage to my ears from when I was a kid. The dr's back then thought I would be 40-60 deaf by now because of ruptured ear drums and the amount of ear problems I had as a kid. Add in driving a boombox as a kid and firing guns / working machinery without plugs and I am amazed I can hear anything.
I am going to stick with it, might order a set of the Surefire plugs and also get a set of custom made.
Your situation is obviously very different to most of us. On the one hand you need to protect your hearing, but on the other hand it has to work right for you! Best of luck finding a good solution.
Here in the UK there are earplug vendors who sell a pack of mixed brands and types of plugs, so we can try them all out and find one that works best. Might be worth seeing if you can find a supplier who can do that for you?
