Of which Screamin' Eagle air cleaner flows better?
Is it the Heavy Breather or the low-profile one like on the CVO touring bikes?
I have the Heavy Breather, but like the looks of the other one better (in black).
I'd like to know if someone has dyno results to prove which one is better. I'm getting some goodies installed Friday and then a dyno tune, so I want the right filter and be done with it. I also am thinking about getting some lowers down the road...
Dyno tests would be interesting as I would have thought that one advantage of the Heavy Breather would be the ram air effect. This would not be something you could duplicate on a dyno. I'd like to know what your dyno tech says.
No ram air effect, first of all a flat front air filter with Heavy Breather second of all ram air ,if I remember correctly, starts at around 100mph and with no air filter will give about a 1% boost . I love the look of the HB and when I need another air cleaner at some point in time that's my first choice but I would expect no improvement in power over my SE full flow air cleaner. Oh and the" hold your hand out the window" argument , just stop it!
I kinda recall one that Jaime had from Fuel Moto with the heavy breather and one for the screaming eagle (with the k&n filter) and there was no performance difference between the two. Maybe he'll chime in and fill us in.
Your stock compression engine will not come close to exceeding the airflow capacity of either product. Stated another way, if your stock compression air intake maxes out at 850 cfm, what difference does it make if the se a/c provides 1100 cfm and the HB provides 1500? The numbers are not accurate; only used to make the point that either product will be capable of providing significantly more air than your stock compression engine can use.
Well, I like to buy right and buy once. Just 'cause I'm doing only cams now doesn't mean I wont' build a fire-breathing monster within the next year or so...
I did talk to the dyno guy. He said the HD Ventilator (the one I like the most) actually performs better than the Heavy Breather at 100hp and above. Below 100hp, it makes no difference. He said that the air doesn't like to make the turn...
Another guy I talked to said that the Ventilator works better because it's drawing air from a negative pressure area in the bike. The Heavy Breather draws from more turbulent airflow.
About the buy once thing, I already have the Heavy Breather. Dangit, now I gotta get a Ventilator. I think I want lowers sooner or later.
You have bought once don't buy again until there is a reason to, don't know your dyno guy but I would hold off until I knew that what he was saying was a real deal and not just a .5 of a hp or 3/4 of lb/ft of tq. As far as air not wanting to turn , air's gotta turn to get into a ventilator same as a HB doesn't it?
