Got Stop by Officer.
Then there was the time I was taking my wife (now ex-wife) to a nice restaurant for her birthday. Stopped for speeding on the Silver Strand. “Officer if you give me a ticket I won’t be able to afford to take my wife to the fancy restaurant for dinner for her birthday and she’ll get McDonalds.” He made her prove it was her birthday (honesty comes through again) and he let me slide! He said it was extra difficult for him to not ticket me since there was a “ticket writing contest” going on and he just wasted an opportunity to take the lead. In retrospect, maybe he felt sorry for me having that b!!ch on the back of the bike….
Besides paying for the tickets in Coronado I was paying the insurance company extra – go figure. So I calm down and act like I have some sense for a few years and I get a letter from the insurance company that says if I continue to behave and don’t get any more tickets for 3 more months my rates drop $50 per month. Like magic, you guessed it, I get pulled over the following day. “Officer I used to get lots of tickets but I haven’t had a ticket in 2 years and the insurance company says they’ll reduce my rates by $50 per month if I don’t get a ticket for 3 more months”. He let me go with a verbal warning! I got my insurance rate reduction and a clever line I used to save me from countless tickets over the years.
Anyway, Coronado built themselves a beautiful, palatial, new police department building which I can proudly say I contributed to over the years by paying traffic tickets.
If one of us to gets a ticket from another one of us it only means that someone in that equasion has been an A$$.
Went to Kearney Nebraska for a BMX Race. Wifey had taken the kids with her on Friday (they are three day events), but I stayed back to work. Well, the girl called, and begged (like little girls do), for me to come up. So, I took 1/2 of Saturday and Sunday off. Drove up Saturday.
After the event,on Sundaywe are heading home. I have the big conversion van with the two boys in it. Wife is following in a Ram 1500 4 dr long bed p/u. I am going uphill, running 71 in a 55. I knew the speed limit, so am not making excuses. Anyway, over the top of a hill comes a forest green SUV. No markings on it, but as we pass, I see the low vis LED lightbar on top.
About 3 miles later, I look in the mirror, and there he is....lights flashing away. I stop, and by the time he gets to the window, I have my window down, and my hands on top of the wheel.
He asks if I was in a hurry, and I said that it had been a long weekend, and we were heading home. He asked from where and why, and I told him. He looks inside of the van, and asks "Where are the bikes??" I told him that they were in the back of the red truck, that was stopped about 300 feet behind his vehicle (the wife had stopped also..this resulted in three back officers showing up). He asked for my d/l, insurance, etc, and I gave it to him.
When he went to go back to his truck, I asked him if he could do me a favor. He said what is that? I then showed him my dept ID, and explained that we had an on duty officer involved in a fatal (the officer's fault), and another officer get a DUI. I went on to explain that our agency then had to go to some insurance company that would refuse to cover you, if you get 3 or more moving violations over a 5 yr period. He asked if I had any (which I didn't), and I told him no, and would like to keep it that way.
He wrote me for 15 over, and called it a "favor" as it saved me 15 bux. I thanked him (was not a smart ***), and went on my way.
Worst part? After writing me the ticket, he called my department, and told them that I had an attitude with him, and THAT is why he wrote me.
I found out later, that he is well known in that area for his multiple car stops, and the reputation that he would write his own mother a ticket.
End of story.
He was cool though and I had just been drag racing CHP and unmarked cars, with my wifes badge propped up in the back window. So, yeah, I deserved it.
Karma's a big word in my dictionary, what goes around comes around.

When I carried a badge, I tried to make sure the officer did NOT see it when I was stopped.
