Default Intercom ?'s

My wife & I are heading out to Yellowstone in a couple weeks & have upgraded to 3/4 helmets from skid lid's so our kids are more likely to have their parents around in the case of an accident, problem is that with the new helmets we lost the ability to talk while riding, anybody suggest a intercom for under $200, what are some features to look for or stay away from, is there a standard mounting procedure for the mic's? Thanks for any info 2005 FLHTI

I use the chatter box. Maybe it is me, but we are only able to use it off the interstate. On the interstate it is constantly on, we turn the squelch to no avail. We are looking at a few other models. This is a great unit at under 50 mph. Others may chime in and have a better idea.

Chatter Box is JUNK. RUN away from any salesman who tries to talk you into it.

The $200 price ceiling makes it hard to fill your request sheet.

I tried Chatterbox and had a horrible time with it. Even went to the Chatterbox location in Chattsworth and had their techs work on it. Two hours later, still no workable intercom.

Bought an Autocom and have been very happy with it, but the price is almost double what you want to spend.

Can you provide any more details on the Autocom? (Or even a web site?)

Thanks!

Autocom headsets work with open-face and full-face helmets. Open-face mounting instructions are here. I guess that if you were wearing a beanie, you could use in-ear speakers like Etymotic ER-6i plugs. Autocom also interfaces with pretty much any communications gadget you can think of including bike-to-bike with FMRS/GRS radio. CB has traditionally been a problem, though.

To buy Autocom products, I would trust Brown Motor Works of Pomona, California. www.brownbmw.com . Ask for Fernando.

I don't actually have an Autocom, but have many friends who do and swear by it. If my wife takes to riding with me once I get my Glide, I will need an intercom. For the record, I will always be a full-face helmet type of guy.

A lot of Gold Wing types seem to prefer Baehr. www.baehronline.com

A couple sites you might want to try are:

http://www.jmcorp.com/

and

http://www.sierra-mc.com/products.asp?id=82

I bought my headsets for my 1/2 helmets at the Sierra website -- and couldn't be happier! The quality is good, the ability to dial down the sensitivity so the mic doesn't open from wind noise -- yet is able to pick up your voice activation -- is really good. They are also great on customer service. One of the headsets went bad on second use, and they replaced the whole thing -- no questions asked. Since then (many trips over this past year and 12,000 miles) they have been trouble-free. And their headsets are reasonably priced.

BTW, I, too, would run from Chatterbox! Several bad experiences, and constant attention to fixing, jimmying wires, messing with plugs, etc... gave me a bad opinion of the products....

Hello,

JM Corp make all the headsets for Honda. Excellent unit. If you want to try it, go to a Honda store, they usually have a spare to test. I have one JM Corp and the one that came with my Ultra, the JM is superior........
