I have the same bike and the dealer refused to do the download because of problems they could not resolve. Too many complaints with the different pipes. He recommended a PCIII. Bike runs great with old injectors and PCIII.
BOTTOM LINE IS....PCIII/precise dyno tune, will result in improved optimized performance, compensating for the infinite mod combos possible, on each individual bike. I would not have been satisfied with anything less, and would do it again without hesitation. Please, no generic downloads![:'(]
I also did the stage 1 download on my 06 Ultra, put on the SE Air Filter and SE Slip-Ons. Absolutely satisified with the way the bike runs. If you see the need to make more changes down the road, then the Stage 1 probably isn't for you. But if you are happy with the bike and just want to drive it and get a bit more grunt, there is no reason to spend more than necessary.[sm=biker.gif]
I agree with redbagger. I have an 05 Ultra with an Arlen Ness Big Sucker, V&H's true duels and Harley touring mufflers. I was going to go with the SERT but the service manager talked me into the basic download. My bike runs great with no problems, but if you intend to do more motor work on down the road then another fuel management system would no doubt be best.
I think that your argument is valid! I had the same configuration on my old Road King. However, having said that, I now see the utmost benefits of having the ECM calibrated/dyno'd, even with just the stock engine. Stage I download is a hit-or-miss thing, and one size does not fit all! If you're not experiencing any backfiring or pops, during deceleration, you are probably pretty close on the calibration.
Adding PCIII or SERT will allow your engine to perform at its highest HP and TQ, while optimizing your gas mileage. For me, I now know the best performance my engine can achieve over just stock configuration. I went from 55HPs to just about over 70HPs, using SERT and proper dyno tuned. It definitely made a big difference.
